How do you wish someone a happy Eid?

What is the correct form of words? I'm not Muslim, but they often wish people a "Merry Christmas", so it seems only polite to return the favour.

I am informed by someone here in Trinidad where it is a public holiday this is how it's done.
ASSALAMU ALAIKUM WA RAHMATULLAHI WA BARAKATUH !!!!!
don't ask me what it means.

I think it may vary, depending on which country the people are from. I know it is what Chris said in Morocco, but don't recall having heard that from Afghans. However, I have no recollection of what the Afghans say, so it could well have been something similar.

Eid Mubarak and if someone says it to you, reply with Mubarak Eid or wa'salaam (which basically means "and to you").
I think most people would be happy with a Happy Eid. You can use it on big Eid as well, which is going to be around the 4/5th of November.
highamexpat your thing means roughly: many/special greetings (originally peace be with you) at the end of Ramadan. May you celebrate!

There are two main Eids, Eid ul-Fitr and Eid al-Adha (Eid means holiday/festival). ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and al-Adha (Big Eid)commemorates the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son.
It's pretty fair to describe ul-Fitr as Muslim Christmas as there's lots of eating and celebrations, gifts and new clothes. I was out last night in Bradford and going through the Muslim areas was fun as people are very friendly and keep offering you food. al-Adha is a more private holiday - families get together and pray. It also marks the first day of the Hajj (pilgrimage) events in Mecca.
Both Eids tend to move forwards through the year by about two weeks each year, so next year ul-Fitr will be the last week of August and al-Adha the first week of November. As Taff says the Muslim calendar is lunar.
Dunno about anyone else, but I really wouldn't fancy fasting next year from the end of July to the end of August.

This fasting thing is no big deal. all it is, is they don't eat during daylight hours whish I often don't. I'm usually at work around six in the morning around sunrise here and home by 6 which is around sunset. usually too busy too eat during the day. Perhaps I should have been a muslim!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure that works better in a hot climate than a cold one. Try fasting all day repeatedly in a cold winter and see how you get on
