On the other hand, the majority of these physicists simply use 'god' as a shorthand for 'the universe and the rules of it and the way it was put together and how it works and all that sort of gubbins'.
Or because they want to sell more books... smiley - winkeye

What physicists may these be?
Classical physics perhaps.. but then there was always the possibility of getting lynched if they tried to deny the existance of a devine presence.
Politics has always played a huge part in Science, and religion is the oldest form of politics.

Quantum Physicists seem quite satisfied with the concept of Evolutionary occurance, and alternate reality syndromes whereby giving rise to a ambiguos factoring of devine intervention on many levels.

The concept of "GOD" is a sure popularity winner for drawing attention of the masses, but no one ever seems to have any new enlightening material on the matter.

The ones mentioned in the post I was responding to (Einstein, Bohr, Hawking), and a few others... of course, if we had a tree-structured conversation you could see this...

Fragilis - h2g2 Cured My Tabular Obsession

I just wanted to clarify about the man whose last name was Gay. There is reason to believe that 'being ridiculed' is not the reason he became violent.

Gay was a military veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He had been to the local Veteran's Affairs office recently asking for medication for this mental illness that can make the victim violent, but he was refused aid. Across the US, funding for veterans is at a crisis level. The man's brother claims he had been out of sorts for weeks.

But is that not your belief; that educated decisions are a better thing than non-educated decisions (granted, not only yours smiley - winkeye)?

I have found that some of the better decisions I have made in my life were based on little 'thinking' as such.

You think blind belief is a bad thing, fine - for others it is a perfectly good thing. Also, are their not some things that you just *know* (without thinking)?

This would seem to be a good indication that you're not very good at thinking... smiley - winkeye
(ok, ok, I'm not serious...)

In all seriousness, what do you mean by thinking "as such"? And what are the sorts of things that you "just know"? I'm curious...
