Yeah it is missing a couple of features I reckon... On the other hand those specs at 250 dabs.... it would be rude not to.

Barnes & Noble has announced they'll soon be selling a new color Nook e-reader smiley - laugh(teehee, snicker, snicker "nookie reader" hee hee). It's android based but not fully open. It's basically a tablet-lite, mostly e-reader with a web browser and some dedicated apps for twitter, facebook, and several magazine/newspaper publishers. It's got a decent price at $249.

I have pretty much decided to get one of those Advent Vega slates next week if it looks like the Android community are going to adopt it.

Advent have annouced that it will get a Gingerbread update in January so it seems relatively futureproof... hopefully...

Cool. I'm still holding out for the Adam. I still don't know when to expect it to be released to the public, but from their blog site I do know they're now working with developers via an Early Access Program. I think they're shipping out 200 Adams to these developers to be chosen on 3 November. smiley - envy

I love the look of the Adam but I can't help thinking it is never going to actually materialise so going to get in early. Migh upgrade to one if/when they are out if it represents a significant step up.

I'm fairly sure they'll make it to market eventually. How long they last on the market is TBD, of course, but at least since they're running Android they won't turn to door stops even if the company goes down.

ViewSonic is jumping in with a 10' tablet that will be a dual boot Windows 7/Android 1.6 device.

Now, if I could load it up with Ubuntu instead of Win7 and it had a screen like the Adam, I might be interested.

Engadget has a "we lived with it for a week" review of the Samsung Galaxy Tablet. The detailed review is here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/01/samsung-galaxy-tab-review/

Interestingly, there isn't a US wifi version, but there is a EU one. The 3G version is $US600 without a contract, and $US400 with the usual 2 year ball and chain. Think I'll wait for the 2.0 .

I was thinking more in terms of can I really afford 250 dabs or not.

also will it be rootable, will the modding community adopt the Vega and produce customer ROMs, will it get gingerbread/honeycomb.

But in reality I long ago decided to get one and it is just a question of talking myself into it!

Within a week you'll be excitedly telling us all about how great it is and how useful it is and how you've no idea how you ever coped without it... smiley - smiley
