A 'step by step' instruction sheet would be useful, making a distinction between users with one or several account. For example:

between ... Jan 2010 and .... 2010
If you just have a 'BBC account' on h2g2 only, perform the following actions when/before(?) you access h2g2:

1. Click on........

From what I understood it won't matter any more on which message board you have your account, it will be the same procedure for all BBC message boards, ie: sign up for one of them, automatically be a member of all. Or so. smiley - erm

I'm not really here

I've done both accounts, I hope they are migrated properly with h2g2. When it happened with SSO it was suggested we sign up in advance to make sure we got the log in name we wanted, then it ended up not happening like that and we had to wait for it to be up and running on SSO before we could. So everyone who'd signed up early *lost* their preferred sign in name as we couldn't link the accounts!

And the emails didn't get sent out to me until I clicked the 'resend the email' link. They should come out automatically.

Got the email alright but can't keep my name. They don't accept apostrophes. smiley - wah

But you can set your account name up as BElana and your nickname as B'Elana.

It told me to choose a 'name' which will be displayed on all accounts - and that name can't contain any apostrophes. Are you saying that is different from your nickname?

I signed up for this a week or so ago - here is the link to their help page, which the eds had posted in #1.

It does look as if you won't be able to retain the apostrophe as your user name B'El, but I can't decide whether you will be able to keep it as a 'nickname' from reading this. smiley - erm

I may have misunderstood the original posting which said "Incidentally, because I know this is important to h2g2 people, you should be able to change your display name when you want to under the new system."

Nosebagbadger {Ace}

that would seem to just say that your name isn't fixed.

Would these rules prevent me from using the brackets that are part of my name?

Even as it stands on h2g2, your login name and your display name are different things.

My display name and login name are entirely differnt... I always thought it a bad idea having the two the same... for security reasons as much as anythign else... smiley - erm

Like 2legs, my login name and my user name have always been entirely different.

I couldn't change my login name, however, I could choose a username, and that's the one which doesn't accept anything else but letters and probably _ or -. Currently it doesn't make a difference because h2g2 hasn't yet implemented that feature, but what will happen once it has?

could we get an ed or whoever gave the original information to come and answer all our questions?

Give everyone a day to pose questions on a dedicated thread and then answer them, that wouldnt be too hard to fit in in the next fortnight or so would it?

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

I thought this all looked simple but there are a few thigns in the initial post/statement that don't read very clearly.
I have several accounts, but only really use this one, and of course the londonmeet account. Do I need to ensure that they're registered to differnt E-mail addresses, in order to preserve them as seperate accounts..... smiley - ermsmiley - run

I think so,2legs--I've changed PaperKid's email info, and would do the same with Flamedancer, except I can't sign into hers--I don't think I brought her through SSOsmiley - erm
