I think they like the metallic doggie noises. They like electronic whizzy noises.
God yes, that who-what-why-when...who gives a damn?

I'm not really here Posted Feb 14, 2007
That's odd - I've always been told that dogs can't see the tv because they can't see in two dimensions. Which is why I have photos like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/minashouse/371952601/ (she's not looking at the screen, but at the speaker at the bottom of the tv) and this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/minashouse/371952604/ because Beauty was trying to work out where the doggy noises were coming from. She couldn't see the screen.
She's used to the tv making dog noises now.

I only have the 'standard' ringtones supplied with my Nokia (perhaps I'm the only person in the world to be so old-fashioned). I had chosen the most discrete of these, but finding it too quiet for where I now work, I decided to select another. Imagine my horror when I found that almost all the others were so clichéd as to be unbearable! Good God, even previewing them, made me cringe with embarrassment.
Since I'm really that stupid, could I ask, is there a method of downloading alternatives, for free?

I think dogs can see TV screens... a friend of mine used to have a dog what would start licking the screen if there were puppies on it.

Can't see in two dimensions? That doesn't seem to make much sense.

I think dogs are just supposed to be rather near sighter anyway, and probably get confused when they can´t smell anything but they see and hear things on the tv.

I think it is the sounds more than the pictures - they can see the flickering lights and hear the noises so they run up to stand in front of the speakers. It is *very* cute

s and s tend to be confused by TV's as far as I know, from observation, as there's no scent to go with what the're seeing on the screen...
...but s do like the noises...

If you *really* want to have fun with your pets, go to http://www.wavelit.com/index.asp?ch=Wildlife&sh=africam
It's a love webcam in the African Bush. Loads of wildlife. My cats' ears are always twitching when I go there and the birdcalls really iritate them.

Cats can't see the TV because their brains work too fast - the screen refresh isn't fast enough for their brains to see it as a picture, they just see the beam tracking across and down the screen. Not sure about dogs but I guess they'd be similar. And LCD TVs must be easier for animals to see.

Blue-Eyed BiPedal BookWorm from Betelgeuse (aka B4[insertpunhere]) Posted Feb 15, 2007
We had folks in for Super Bowl Sunday, to watch (American) football at its finest. I used one of those !nF0cus projector-type things to give use a HUGEmongous view of the action on the downstairs family room wall. So big you could count nose hairs. ..... But I digress.
There's a low, narrow bookshelf against that wall and the projected image was displayed from a few inches above that all the way to the ceiling. During the course of the game, our Midnight Moon would jump up onto the top of the shelf and wander back-and-forth below the action. She'd gaze at the players in close-up, but sit quietly, waiting for her opportunity. When the camera would zoom back and show a greater portion of the playing field, she'd select a target (usually a referee), stand on her hindquarters, and swat at the moving bodies. She's pretty darn accurate, that cat. I think she 'threw the game' by accomplishing a couple of tackles on her own.

I'm pretty sure my see images on the screen. They will watch quietly unless a moving figure or animal is shown and then they get closer to see if they can scent it. Dog's vision is geared to detect movement much more so than humans.

Going back a subject - I've not seen the ferry ad, but I'm guessing it's for Cal-Mac.
Three years ago I wanted to get onto the Isle of Mull from Ardnamurchan with my car. The ferry which usually ran that route had been taken up to do the run to Skye, after the "new, purpose built ferry" had run aground, ripping off one of it's propellors.
The replacement ferry was little more than a world war 2 landing craft with a covered cabin for the driver. It could only hold five cars, and a few people, and the cars were that crammed in that we couldn't open the doors to get out. If we had capsized, we wouldn't have stood a chance!
To someone who has experienced one of their "back-up" ferries, a "purpose built" ferry would be a welcome relief!

I hate the new P@mpers ad with the dancing baby. Reminds me of Ally McBeal and her Oogah-chaka dancing baby.

Black-Eyed Girl... Sometimes the only sane answer to an insane world is insanity! Posted Feb 21, 2007
Well Im dunno about all this animals cant see the tv.... I mean, not being a cat or dog, its hard to say for certain, but Im 100% convinced that my cat sees it fine.
We have to put up with lots of nature shows, she doesnt bat an eyelid at tigers, cheetahs, leopards etc but put a lion programme on and she is right there, granted the sounds might be drawing her in but then she starts acting all lion like, and normally shes so lazy that she only really gets up to go to the toilet and eat otherwise she doesnt want to know. But if she starts watching lion programmes, then thats it, shes stalking (Something she NEVER does) snarling and bein all lion like.
Yes I know that cats are cats, regardless of size but theres something about lions that inspires her to be more butch!! lol.
The other one just dives behind it, trying to find the animals, but he's a bit of a plank! lol

A Super Furry Animal Posted Feb 22, 2007
There's an advert for Quorn...it features a "typical" family sitting down for dinner. A "typical" family is one mum, one dad, one teenage daughter, one teenage son.
The mum serves Quorn with...er...mixed other (indeterminate) food. Daughter complains that she's the only one allowed Quorn, as it's "her thing", and it's no good if everyone else in the family eats it.
Can anyone explain what message this advert is trying to get across? Cos I'm at a loss.

I´d imagine the message is that Quorn is trendy.
