I'm looking for Hoo's theory about the humans in Star Trek being communist. I saw it in a thread years ago (and no, you don't have to look for that ), but I thought he might have done a page on it or left some other easy to find marker. It's most likely to be in Hoo's older account, not his recent incarnations.

That's a hard one. Was it in Ask, or on his journal, or someone else's journal? Was the thread about Star Trek initially or did it evolve from a discussion about communism or flower arranging? I really admire the people who come up with answers so quickly on this thread.

TC, the thread where I saw it is long gone. I thought Hoo might have put this theory in an A page or somewhere else more obvious that someone else might remember (someone who knows him better than I do).

Not necessarily, if you know how to look. Any clues as to who else was in this conversation?

I vaguely recall that too. I think Della was around. I may have posted, but probably just lurked (I've not seen Star Trek). I think it was a religion thread. If it was originally about Star Trek, I probably wouldn't have read it.
Of course, Hoo may have put forward his theory more than once.

I'm not sure I want to look! Two reasons:
1) "I think Della was around".
2) "I think it was a religion thread."
That's hardly narrowing the field!

That's my point, it's too vague to find. It was in that period of time when there were long running threads that often/usually morphed from their original topics, and included lots of different people. Was most likely in Ask, but other than that I don't know. It was something that Hoo talked about from time to time I think, so it's possible it's in several threads.

Here is what I think, it was either a thread attached to an entry or was a PS discussion thread on either Math's wizard, Wraith or Apparitions pages.
Lord only knows how I came to stumble on it....

Yeah, wraith/app rings a few bells, although I still think it was a thread about something else and the topic came up. Can't be certain though

It was at the height of the Della Wars... so quite possibly member of the "axis of weasels"... .... Had followed a thread where this got brought up and we were all there.
I strongly remember that Wraith was very unhappy with this suggestion.
A big part of the ensuing row focused around personal transportation and it became a Della/Hoo row....

That makes sense. What a good memory you have.
You could always trawl the Della Wars thread Or was hoo banned by then?

#8, scroll down past his theories about LotR and Star Wars and we get to:
"Star Trek:
Starfleet is a communist military dictatorship which uses the cover of the United Federation of Planets to give it a veneer of respectability. However, they control all access to space - NOBODY in Star Trek owns their own ship, everybody gets about on Starfleet vessels or government owned passenger ships. If you're not Starfleet, you're little people. Starfleet is able to declare martial law on Earth at the drop of a hat."

Thanks! It's not the one I was thinking of (which was more involved), but it may be later in that thread, I'll have a look

You'll find a longer explanation of that theory on someone's PS. Can't remember whose. I know myself and Blicky were there. It might've been on Della's son's PS, now I think about it.

Ferrettbadger. The Renegade Master Posted Sep 8, 2009
Yeah I am increasingly sure it was one Wraith PS...
However I do wonder if it was a journal entry. He deleted all of those one one of his flounces off and consequently it might be near enough impossible to find.
But yeah it turned into a big row about whether or not people tended to chose personal transportation when available...
The more I think about it the more I remember...
Ahh the good old days

I've just been on that trip down memory lane
Bain and Wraith have cleared the PS How do you find the journal entries? I think they're just hidden not deleted, is that right?
Wraith: U538645
Bain (I think): U724267
Where's that thread...?
Maybe they really are gone.
MJ724267?journal=0&show=5&skip=5 brings up nothing.
