What is the best way to lay carpet on a ceiling?

I think my final inspiration will be, if I ever get round to do this, basically whatever is cheapest offcuts and at the right size.... I hope* to either get it all the same colour, or all utterly clashing colours .... the whole room in pink shag pile would be pretty nice.... or maybe a mixtur eof red gren and pink and white shag pile..... with a big black bit to cover the doors and .... yeh....

Ooo I just had an idea.... you know those 'carpet strip things, that you put where two caprets meet, like in the floor middle at a door way.... I could use them as batons, fixed to the ceiling, over8 the carpet (I.E., visable to me in the room), to hold the carpet up, of course they'd need to be screwed into the joists/beans in the ceiling, but one ttrip at one side fo the ceiling, going over several beans/joists, an danother at the other side... that might... be kinda weird... actually maybe strips of wood would be cheaper

The main problem is going to be sag, and the weight of the sagging carpet pulling holes in the edges where it's fixed.
iirc, the egg boxes can work, but they are best if you fill in the gap between them and the wall with some sort of expanding foam as this helps to deflect AND deaden any noise. And a couple of layers is apparently recommended to make it at all worthwhile.

I've been searching online without success, but there used to be a product years ago that was basically "carpet in a can". It seemed to be a kind of flock that you applied to walls or ceilings with a roller and gave the effect of carpet. Does anyone else remember seeing it, 'cos it would be perfect for 2legs?

Oh... but where is the fun in htat?; you gotta live on teh edge maan....
:: Actually I think all the furnature foam type stuff now has to be fire retardant.... maybe I coudl get some old cheets, and make fancy prints on them to go over it... or maybe not... I still like the carpet idea... but I'm not sure... I may just do the door first then see how easy that was...

If sound proofing is the issue:-
http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/sound_proofing_in_the_home.htm
If it's heat, there are many super slim electric heaters, for example:-

Other solutions are available.

Yeh... insulation is the key, I've a little electric heater thing I sometimes use in this room when my fingers start hurting whilst typing but due to the position of this room.. and the hallway/outside door downstairs, soon as you turn it off, the room is back cold again... and there isn't much room to insulate here, the ceiling above me, can't ahve much gap between the plaster board and the tiles/roof joists, judgeing by the line that the roof takes in teh adjoining walk in loft space... Also the room has no windows in it, so over insulating coudl then provide a problem in the summer in terms of ventilation
The soundproofing issue isn't relaly soudnproofing per sai; the main reason I use this room as a studeo is that it doesn't strictly speaking have a single 'outside' wall in it, and doesn't share any walls in common with the neighbours, having as it does the utility room to my right, and the middle stairwell landing to my left
I guess the wall in front of me is the closest thing to an 'outside' wall, but that only leads into the walk-in loft space thing, which is a good... ten fiteen foot long space with sloping roof ..
The soudnproofing is more to reduce reflection in the room isself I guess reduce bass rellection a bit and prevent some fo the pinponging of the high frequencies
I'm hoping the ventilation/heating/draft dynamics of the house will change mid 2009 anyhows when the windows get replaced...
And quite warm in this room today, thanks to the sun heating up the roof I guess still feel the draft running in though... err I guess comign up from teh front roor... or maybe downstairs from teh bedrooms/bathroom

Time for some draft excluders then, 2legs? Put draft excluders through your house and you'll be helping to stop any fires spreading should you be so unfortunate. As well as draft-proofing, of course!

I'm not sure if I can 'draft excluse' the windows, which are the main culprits in all this The front door is pretty* draft free, though a lot of drafts come up from down by the front door, simply because its not heated down there, and can't really be heated down there, as of the boiler being on the floor above and quite a long distance away It'll all be sorted once I kill the people at the council.

I've an idea...
First dig a very large hole right under your house, almost the size of the house, but leaving just enough earth joined at each corner to stop the house from falling into the hole.
Next take the carpet and lay it face down in the room and cover the undersurface with contact adhesive.
Then go back outside. Find three friends and each, simultaneously, did away the remaining supports.
Your house will now plummet downwards. The carpet, however, will remain where it is. As your ceiling reaches the level of the carpet, the carpet will stick to it.
Sorted.
The only flaw I can see is that hoovering is going to be awfy difficult. Plus you'll be living in a large hole.

I assumed it was drafts under doors. Even just a big stuffed sausage like wot me nan used to have kicked up against the bottom of the door of the colder rooms should help, shouldnt it?

But if your house is in a large hole, drafts won't be so much of a problem! If you dig the hole deep enough you can even take advantage of the geothermal effect. Free heating!

Hmm, but you'll lose the solar energy gain through the windows...
