I'm sorry not to have replied before, I've been poorly-bad-in-bed-with-a-shawl-on!
We're still not sure what time we'll be arriving in town so we thought that maybe we could meet for lunch? Time and place to be arranged?

Whoops, getting click happy in my old age We would certainly value your company for the afternoon - until we have to be back at Centraal Station for the coach back to the boat. Has anyone any idea how long it takes to get from the docks into town?

No journey is very far in Amsterdam, but I'll leave the answer up to the locals.
Sorry to hear you were so ill you had to revert to the shawl.

If you're arriving at the Passenger Terminal, you'll be right in the middle of the development project I mentioned. There should be bus lines to Centraal Station. On foot it's about 10 minutes (to the west, along the water).
If you're arriving somewhere else, just leave a message and I'll see what I can find out.
Best of health!

The time for the depends on where you disembark.
The nearest should be the Newcastle - IJmuiden ferry, then it will be between 30 and 45 minutes. It also depends on how long the will wait to collect everyone. For this boat you will have to be back rather early, as there is only one boat a day.
It's the same for Hull - Hook of Holland, only one a day, only there you are much farther from Amsterdam and you might have to go back after just a few hours. In that case you would probably have won a trip to Rotterdam to have a bit of time before returning.
From Harwich to Hook of Holland takes a lot less time and this will go more often, but there still is the much longer trip.
So it looks like it will be a mini meet from lunch to between 15.00 and 17.00 when the goes back.

We're on the Newcastle-IJmuiden ferry . The sailing is at 18:00 so I think the coach will probably leave at about 16:30? Still we can get a mini-meet in between 13:00 ish and then .
We're already talking about coming back to Amsterdam to stay for a couple of days so we can 'do' it properly

It looks really theatre, music, ballet & I think comedy? My Dutch is pretty non-existent but I could make out some words

It's a pretty good place to visit although I prefer Paradiso - except that the seats make your bum ache after a while!

I have never been in either one. As far as I know their principle aim is young people and there were always tales of 'funny' stuff.

It's all been confirmed May 12th. Would someone like to suggest a place to meet and ? somewhere easy to find We're being dropped off at the Centraal Station as I've said and then will be going for a little wander around the shops so somehwere near the station should be findable even for this little old lady

I think the definite meetingplace should wait until we know what weather we can expect. It would be if we agree on the LeidsePlein terrace and it happens to be pouring.
A first suggestion would be 'on the steps of the National Monument' on Dam square. That's 3 minutes through Central station and 5 - 10 minutes walk from the station. For shops the famous Kalverstraat starts from Dam square and there are canal boattrips nearby.

That sounds like a good idea!
Granny, do you have a new-fangled device called a mobile? If so, drop me an email and I'll give you my number. We can exchange text messages if we need to.

And time to revive me and Nogbad - after the Queen concert last night we're pretty washed out.
When will I learn that high heels, a concrete floor & lots of bopping about do NOT mix . Queen with Paul Rodgers were magnificent!
All I've got left to do is book the taxi to take us to the railway station & we're ready . It might be an idea to see if I can find any photos of you on site as well There's some fairly recent ones of me and Nogbad at A666542 taken at the Curry Meet Mark 2 although I'll probably have my hair down, Nogbad's not got that option.
I won't be bringing high heels.
