Oh, this is what I worried about. They should have just taken the TV series, improved the special effects and video quality, and turned it into a film.

I did. I don't mind surealism, I actually quite like it if it's done well, but the most important thing is the dialog.

The thing with reviews is...bad ones read much better than good ones.
I read the first little bit of the review, then when I realised the guy was criticizing the fact that the film wasn't the same as the TV show I gave up. Isn't that the point? Was the TV show the same as the radio series?
Anyway, I like to make up my own mind (as I'm sure most of the rest of you do, too) so won't be influenced one way or the other by reviews.
Can't wait!!

Some of my favourite movies originally received bad reviews... and many pieces of pure cinematic cack have received raves.
Some reviewers I pay more attention to like Roger Ebert, because I tend to agree with him. But I won't let even him make up my mind about a movie.
And NO ONE is going to give me a bad attitude about Hitchhikers' before I see it.
I too only read about 5 - 10 sentences of the planet magrathea review. If he's right, I'll figure it out for myself. But I'm not going in with any preconceived notions about the film.... I know it is not going to be like the previous incarnations... I've figured that much out from the trailers. Jim Lynn gives an excellent counter review here: F124?thread=623566 This is a new medium, I will expect it to be more visually oriented than the previous versions. Will the story change? of course. The middle of the film will be new material based on new stuff from U42. From what I understand the final screen play is not THAT far removed from Adams' last version... just tweeked a bit.
The film will be released here in just over two weeks... I'm taking a day off work and plan to watch it multiple times. From what I've seen so far I don't think I'll be disappointed. And if I don't hear my favourite lines from the books or radio scripts or telly series that I've read and heard dozens of times in the last 20+ years... Maybe that won't be such a bad thing.

The film is really, really good - and that's from the perspective of me (I read the books last about 18 years ago) and James (who knows hitchhikers inside out).
Once you've seen how the two heads thing works, it couldn't be any other way, and Marvin is perfect - still permanently depressed and totally Marvin, but for the first time (for me) it's plausible that the rest of the crew don't just dump him through an airlock. Whenever I think about the film I remember something else I like about it, and it's still making me laugh, a couple of days later. I'm looking forward to seeing it again, and again; even though certain bits will lose a small amount of their impact when I know what's coming.
You lucky things, going to see it for the first time!

That sounds much better than that silly review. Perhaps Hitchhikers is just beyond the author of that little piece.
I seem to remember that Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was labeled as dull, pointless, boring and un-funny.

I was cycling home from college yesterday and just as I was arriving my house there was a big double bill-board advertising the movie.

I went into my local branch of Currys yesterday and the trailer was playing on the TVs opposite the entrance. I resisted the temptation to point and shout 'Rewind it - that was me that was.'
