I meant a purple thing that ate cheese, not an eater of purple cheese...
*also wonders what purple cheese would taste like*

Not being bothered to trawl through the backlog, did orbitalbob ever reveal his wonderful 'secret'?

Nope, I just don't see it. It looks nothing like the world.

It does. Adam is the back end of Europe and Asia. God et al is North and South America so the Bering Strait is in the centre of the map. Just look at the outline. Can't for the life of me remember what that type of world map is called but I've seen them before.

But it doesn't. Alaska is broken off from the rest of North America while South America overlaps North America and Africa! Australia is upsidedown. Europe is slightly broken off from Asia.

did u check the other works by da vibci and botticeli - I am aware of the over;ap - Australia shouldnt be there I just got carried away, it wasnt dicovered until later. The overlap can be played around with, remember the paintings are 50o years old and the maps may have been slightly different. The fact it fits almost perfectly into four major works of art by three artists using Amerigos sister in law as a model in three of them and possibly Amerigo himself in one surely counts for something....no?

It's probably a coincidence... map making wasn't really an exact science at the time and I seriously doubt that all the artists in question would have known enough about continental drift to even guess at the shape of Pangea.

a coincidence - no
3 artists, one of which good friend and neighbour of map maker and explorer Amerigo Vespucci, I dont think its a coincidence, each to there own though

As I said, map making was not an exact science in those days. Plus Australia hadn't been discovered.

Anyway. Have you got any proof *at all* that it wasn't a coincidence?

orbitalbob Posted May 5, 2005
have you got proof that its not? Why is it easier for some people to believe in the whole Da Vinci Code thing rather than a moew obvious, perhaps boring / feasable option? Have you visited my site to look at the paintings?
Im not being big headed here at all, i'd just like someone to look at it straight and tell me exactly what they think. I doscovreed the whole thing by accident, im not trying to be clever here, it just happened. A little history, geography and maths and without much effort at all have made very strong arguements for the theory.
There is some scandal involved however, the Vatican hold a "sister" painting of The Birth of Venus in their vaults which will never be seen side by side with the other as the other was cropped. Its thought thst by superimposing one on the other it would reveal someting within.
Personally I think that Botticeli was the main man herem Michelangelo and Da Vinci just followed his lead.

Lack of knowledge at the time about continenal drift and the Pangean continent perhaps?
<>
Has this painting ever been seen? If not how can you be sure it really exists? If it has been seen has it ever been photographed? If so why not just use modern technology to do the superimposing rather than merely speculating about the possiblity?
Bear in mind here that I am *not* saying you are completely wrong. I am a natual sceptic and tend to poke these things until they either poke back or break.
What I *am* saying, however, is that one should never mistake theory for fact.
I'll have to check out the websites later, I'm at w**k and can only access BBC sites from here.

There were hundreds of thousands of artists in the world, and hundreds of millions of paintings. The fact that three or four of them very very slightly look like as if they are depicting the continents is therefore very likely.

orbitalbob Posted May 5, 2005
im not saying its factual, im saying its more than likely.
pangea theory - from an artists point of view you only have to look at africa and south america - which had just been charted by Amerigo, to see how well the allign.
Im more interestested in Antarctica, which I believe was also charted by Amerigo after South America. There have been ancient maps (Spanish I think) showing the continent but am at present unsure of timescale etc. Amerigo - if you check a biog on the net was in close connection with Spain "perhaps" as he was being held back in his own discoveries by the Church in Italy, there were some scandals involved with the Medici family and the Pope at the time.
There are more ramblings on my website, please look through all paintings as several are in direct connection to this theory.
RE: Painting held in Vatican vaults - this is a mystery, not sure wether it open to be viewd or has since been destroyed and I have no idea what it looks like. If you look at "Sandros Secret" it may have been something to do with that.
