With reference to chapter and verse if possible.

I like this one:

"Now these three remain: faith hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." 1 CORINTHIANS 13

In fact I like the way it carries on: "Love is patient, love is kind, love doesn't not envy, does not boast, is not proud...love keeps no record of wrongs, love always perseveres, ... love never fails"

but I can't remember exactly how it goes without a Bible to hand.

1 Cor. 13 is one of the most famous descriptions of love in literature, actually. It's pretty good, alright.

My suggestion above was perhaps a little tongue-in-cheek, but it is a verse which many Christians often seem to forget.

"Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God."

But I prefer this more concise version:

"All you need is love"

But, while love is important, "All you need is love" is not actually quite what the bible says at all.

1 John 4:18, (18) "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."

Is definitely one of my favourites!

From Sermon on the Mount, which I like loads.

'And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lillies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Mathew 6, 28, 29
