Somebody mentioned the Sisters of Mercy... so from the same album (Some Girls Wander By Mistake), there is:
The Sisters of Mercy - Gimme Shelter (Rolling Stones)
The Sisters of Mercy - 1969 (Iggy Pop?)
On different albums/bootlegs:
The Sisters of Mercy - Emma (Hot Chocolate)
The Sisters of Mercy - Jolene (Dolly Parton?)
The Sisters of Mercy - Knocking on Heaven's Door (Bob Dylan)
Also, basically everyone did a cover of Heaven's Door at one point or other...
Do you actually want covers of any song made by a punk etc band, or do you want any covers of punk etc songs?

Any song, covered by a punk band or the like. I'd also nearly forgotten another goodie- the Plasmatics "Stand By Your Man".

And then there is this:
Les Reines Prochaines - Opfer dieses Liedes
The song title translates as "victims of this song." In fact, it is a brilliant cover version of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game." Trust me, you have never heard the song like THIS before. Stylewise, it is punk (in attitude), New Wave (in sound), suicidally funny (in mood). Don't know how you can get it, though. There webpage is http://www.reinesprochaines.ch/ but it seems to be in German, only. Scary pictures, though.

And maybe this site could help you get more ideas. Just found it, myself, otherwise I would have posted it earlier.

Thanks!
And how did I forget about Dweezil & Ahmet Zappa's cover of "Hit Me Baby One More Time".
So little time to prepare before Monday.

Not that I'm aware of. I'd copied all of my vinyl and cassettes to my hard drive a few years ago, and have been copying tracks to CD. Oddly enough, we were listening to that album just last evening!

This weekend's project, if it goes well and I don't get sidetracked: compile playlist and burn CD(s) of cover tunes. Another old project I've decided to try to complete before year's end.

I can't believe through all of that no-one mentioned Billy Jean . Not very punk I'll grant, but quite 80s.
Would also have pointed out Pixies - Velouria and Sonic Youth - Bull in the Heather. Alas, too late.

So, cover tunes?
Johnny Cash singing Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" (and basically every song on that particular CD)
Depeche Mode doing Nat King Cole's (?) "Route 66"
Rammstein doing Depeche Mode's "Stripped"
Laibach doing Rammstein's "Ohne Dich"
"Gloomy Sunday" as sung by Heather Nova
Rufus Wainwright doing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"
Nick Cave doing The Beatles' "Let it be"
And back to Johnny Cash, with him singing Nick Cave's "Mercy Seat"
For starters.

I've been digging through the collection over the weekend, compiling a playlist (which we can then burn to CD) from stuff we have.
It'll be fun to hear what other folks would pick!!
You've got some interesting choices there, Yelbakk. I have the Johnny Cash cover CD, though the Depeche Mode song is one of the ones I skip over (as is the Nine Inch Nails ).
Hope to have a listing up here later this afternoon! You keep yours coming as well, eh?
