I still don´t believe in that 3D fad. Might be nice if and when they ever start investing in good directors and real actors instead of just hundreds of computer "special effects" lab geeks.

Does Kenneth Brannagh not count as a good director then?
What on earth does POTC stand for?
It might be nice if we knew what film you were talking about when you post your review!

Sorry Orcus . It's just that I can never remember how to spell Carrib - Caribbi - that word. And I'm usually very good at spelling.

Incidentally I recently went to see Pilates of the Caribbean. Amazing what you can do with a limbo pole these days...

I saw POTC this evening. It had mermaids. That's all I remember. Johnny Depp cashing a paycheque.

I saw my first 3D film last weekend. Here's what I wrote about it in my journal. Would like to know if anyone else agrees with the experience (female and male).
>>I had to learn to watch it. I wondered why everything was so out of focus. I tried looking with my glasses on, then without, but I finally discovered that you have to look directly at something.
Once I heard the hunter/gatherer theory that men have a smaller scope of vision and only concentrate on the main subject within their vision - as they are the hunters and have to concentrate on the one target. Women, as gatherers, have to have their eyes everywhere, and have a wider scope of vision (depicted on the illustrations as a cone with a wider base). Once I had worked this out, and picked on a single object to look at, I understood how the 3D worked. But I had to consciously focus on a single object and readjust my sight every time the scene changed in the film.
Which proves that a: Men (not women) invented 3D and b: the hunter/gatherer differentiation is still in our make-up, some tens of thousands of years on in our evolution<<

Was it normal 3D or iMax 3D? They are different.

'Pirates' last night.
Can I have my money back please.
Dull. From what I can remember, it was about a load of fighting in the dark.
Must remember to feed my fish when I get home.

TC, read "Why Men don´t listen and Women can´t read Maps".
That book really opens your eyes as to understanding the gender differences hardwired into our brains.

Yes, Pit - that's what I meant.
It was Imax. I will some day venture into a normal cinema to see what that's like and find out what everyone's talking about.

I watched Pirates yesterday and I enjoyed it: yes it's formulaic, crazy fights connected by Johnny Depp prancing around but that's all I wanted from it.
It wasn't as funny as no.3 and they neutered Barbossa for most of the film which was a shame. They had a reason for it and once it's all revealed it makes sense but it's more fun when Geoffrey Rush is allowed to cut loose. That said, I could watch Johnny Depp stagger around all day, he does make it very watchable and the set pieces were, as always, spectacular and inventive.
I hope they leave it alone now, let the franchise end here.

Ah but they won't. As anybody who watched the snippet AFTER the credits would know. What's that? You left before the end of the credits? Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

'The Wrestler' with Mickey Rourke by Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Black Swan).
Superb character piece. Rourke is wonderful in it, he's definitely back. The rest of the cast are great too.And this was before Iron Man 2 and The Expendables. Iron Man 2 didn't stretch him, The Expendables he did over a couple of days during the filming of Iron Man 2 and his little scene with Sly Stallone is intimate and brilliant given the time he had to prepare for it.
For the youngsters I can recommend 'Angel Heart' to see him in his prime before he disappeared.

The genreal view is it;s better than no.3. I'm not going to watch it...I have a strange love of all the first 3 just from the point of view that htey got away with making the last 2 which were bloated and over-blown and I liked that...weird I know...
Sorry, mate...but it seems they have another trilogy in mind!

Wow, just listening to Rourke saying he hired an ex-Isreali soldier to train him...these guys do Krav Maga full contact self-defence...the IT guy where I work does it...you don;t want to know the injuries he's had...really great guy too! You have to be to do nutbar stuff like that.
Also, it helps when you a) were a boxer who cam on stage to 'Sweet Child of Mine' and b) when an actor remember that...get the crew to put it on during the scenes..c) ring Axl to get permission to use the song and then get Slash to do some of the incidental music in some scenes...
And this was a low low budget movie. Watch it...

and Mark and Simon.
And at Mickey Rourke. After Angel Heart I vowed never to see another film with him in it. And I've kept to that, except once I caught a bit of "Diner".
Horses for courses.
