"consistent arrogance"?
I've only been back for a handful of posts, and I've barely posted on this site this year. Don't even make an attempt to think you know who I am, or how my personality is at this stage in my life. If you can't tell the difference between self-deprecation and a negative attitude, then I pity you.
Whether or not you give me an "even break", your opinions don't really count for much when you were the one that started with the blatent unjustified flaming. It's most disappointing to see you with such an attitude, being that I've always had such a high opinion of you.
I'll leave it at that. I hope I don't have to address this subject again.

QED.
Perfect vintage Saturnine. Fab!
You presuppose that this is the only part of the internet I lurk on, my dear. Along with so much else....
This post has *really* cheered me up. I was worried for a moment there that I was underestimating you, and that you deserved more credit than I was giving.
Happy New Year everyone.

Okay guys guys calm down a bit BOTH of you please. It was a misunderstanding, which is very easy to happen when everything is typed and you can't see or hear the person. Everyone let it go please.

This is a good point...and they might get really really tetchy that you are going to go back to the ex or something if you still get on well or are going to sleep together or something.

That happens.
A lot depends on what terms they are on with their own exes. One subsequent lover tended to brace himself for trauma whenever I told him my ex had phoned or emailed, but that was because of his own bad experiences, not because of mine.
I think he found it a confusing mix of unsettling and comforting that I was able to keep in touch so successfully. Unsettling, because he was never sure whether or not I had got my ex out of my system, and comforting because it was proof positive that I was mature enough not to get pettily vindictive or blame someone for a shared failure.

Hmmm, being friends with an ex doesn't seem like a good idea. Even if you ended it on friendly terms, do you still want to see them running around with a new guy now and then? We talked about it at work in Ireland. It seems for the Irish it is common to stay friends with the ex, whereas in Denmark we don't do that. Althought that was judging from a handful of people from both places.
Easy Sat and Ben, don't want to see you two fighting.

I don't *presume* anything. I've merely responded to the unwarranted flaming that you've given me which demonstrate that you know absolutely nothing about me. If you wish to throw the "aha! I knew it, you've proved my oh-so-knowledgeable-point-that-I-won't-ever-explain-because-it-lacks-coherency correct" line at me, then do so. But it only really makes one person look silly, and that person isn't me. If you have a personal problem with me and have desires to hound me off the site, how about you do it in my personal space where I and the rest of the community can freely ignore your posts? Cheers in advance.

Apologies Xanatic and everyone else on this thread. I honestly didn't think this kind of thing would happen. But you can't predict what other folks will do.

I still see my most significant ex pretty often -- we still live in the same area (for several years we were in the same neighborhood), and still have many of the same interest. And every year or two, one or the other will call or email -- hey, I read a book you'd like, do you want it? -- or hey, do you still have that video game, can I buy it off you? -- or hey, do you have so-and-so's phone number?
And yes, I've seen him with his various girlfriends. Makes me quite glad we split up, actually, because it makes it all the more clear that we wouldn't have been a good fit now, at 10 years down the road.
I have definitely learned the hard way, however, that gossiping about your ex can get you in trouble!
An old boarding school friend had come into town, and we were doing the girl thing -- drinking margaritas, and going into graphic detail about why we were better off without the various men in our histories.
nb: At the restaurant we were at, our booth was separated from the booth to the left us by a low wall with lots of potted plants stacked on it.
Just as we are discussing the vital details of said men (in graphic detail, mind you), one of the aforementioned plants is suddenly pushed aside to reveal my ex's stepmother. And across from her, my ex and his father.
She'd heard the whole thing, apparently, including some choice bits about my ex's sister. And all she said was "Why hello, dear, I thought that was your voice. It's so lovely to see you again after all this time."
My pulse didn't return to normal until the next morning, and I haven't gossiped about men in public since then.

Yeah, as we were escaping, I turned to my friend and said something to the effect of, "I thought this kind of thing was only supposed to happen in cheesy sitcoms, not in real life!"
I never found out, though, if she told my ex what she'd heard...

Mikey, sometimes one is karma-in-action without even knowing it, I cannot help wondering if he had just been 'explaining' to them why you'd split up from his poing of view and the goddess simply gave you the chance to redress the balance. I do hope you now find it funny.
Sat, you are running 100% true to form too, which is peachy. You even copied my post, and then in the first line of your response misquote it. 100% vintage Sat - as I said.
Bliss. I wouldn't miss this for the worlds.

PS - What do you want me to explain when you imply I am saying: "aha! I knew it, you've proved my oh-so-knowledgeable-point-that-I-won't-ever-explain-because-it-lacks-coherency"?

On a lighter note, I once had a girl. Love at first sight it was, and even the torrid affair to boot. All sneaky-sneaky(her parents didn't approve)and don't tell the friends. Oh, to be 18 and in love!
Of course it ended, and I was shattered. Turns out she was trying to make a friend of mine whom she liked jelous but stayed for the sex and good company.
With my world at an end, I thought "Foriegn Legion, they're sure to get me killed", but alas, I spoke no french. The Navy was delighted to snatch me up, so on the line went the signature and a wait to leave for Boot Camp.
Yup, you knew it was comming. The tapping at the door at 10:00pm, the tearfull hello after three months. Seems she'd come to realize she loved me all along. Damn! A day late and a dollar short, the story of my life.
Of course the Naval department could care less, so that was a short lived dream. Long distance romance is only for the movies or the stupid. It never works, and knowing such, broke it off so she could go on without the baggage. Why does doing the noble thing hurt so much?
On a brighter note, I traveled the world, seeking answers and solice for the heart. The adventures I had could fill a book (or two). And all because of a girl.

Is that true, Spynxxx? It is a fab story, painful though it must have been at the time.
