Anybody home?
does this stir anything up?
'Mount Vernon City Schools announced Tuesday that it will launch an independent investigation into allegations made against an eighth-grade science teacher by parents.
According to a complaint, John Freshwater used an electrostatic device to burn crosses onto students’ arms. . .
10TV News reported last week that Freshwater agreed to take down the Ten Commandments from the door of his classroom, along with posters containing Bible verses and Bibles on a shelf. However, he refused to remove a Bible from his desk.
The complaint charges that Freshwater used his classroom to advance religion in violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. In a recent class, it was charged that Freshwater taught the meaning of Good Friday and Easter. . .'

And there are rallies being held *in support* of this guy.

I find it impossible to comment until the investigation is concluded. This should be a fundamental rule in any case where someone is accused of something. And if anyone works with kids, it makes sense to monitor things until the truth is established.

This may perk things up a bit...
"
Val Thomas and her family strongly believe that the Lord granted them their miracle and they want everyone to know.
"I know God has something in store for me, another purpose. I don't know what it is but I'm sure he'll tell me," she said.

I heard earlier on a satirical programme that Peter Phillips, Princess Anne's son who married earlier this week, has retained his position in Line of Succession to the throne by getting his wife to renounce her Catholic faith, and convert to Protestantism. He is.... wait for it....11th in line........ What a wally.

'....It is not known if Ms Kelly was a practising Catholic, but she was educated at Catholic schools. Despite this, the Royal Family have appeared to welcome their future member into the fold.... She has been invited on the family’s traditional summer cruise around the Scottish Hebrides ..'..... Bet that's nice and chilly and fun.....
Is there no end to the daftness of these anachronistic toffs?

It's what you are baptised into. You are not allowed to be a baptised Catholic and acceed to the throne. You must be baptised Protestant. It's not much cared what is believed or not; that doesn't come into it. It's that state established church issue again we have here. The monarch, the Head of State, always also being Head of the Church of England.
If you go back far enough it all started with the Reformation, under Henry VIII, so that he could divorce Catherine of Aragon and marry Anne Boleyn. The Pope wouldn't let him. So Henry made himself head of the newly formed Protestant church, and told the pope where to go. And then a few years later grew tired of his new wife, had her head chopped off, and moved onto wife number 3. British Royals don't do things by halves.

Yeah so you are not allowed to marry a baptised Catholic and acceed to the throne because the Catholic bit would pollute the blood line.

And in Scandiwegia, everyone goes mad, tears off all their clothes and indulges in mass orgies. I hope.

So it's possible for the Head of the CofE to be atheist?

Shan't be taking laptop...but might check in courtesy of my Swedelish employers Flying Monday.
'All religions aspire towards Atheism' Yes - the Anglican Communion has a tradition of tolerating the unorthodox. This guy was an Empiricist (one of the triumverate, along with Hume and Locke). but also a Church of Ireland bishop. A3472986 (Props to the sorley missed Recumentman).
In our own time...there's characters such as David Jenkins (quondam Durham) and Richard Holloway (quondam Edin) - my kinda Christians They're practically Atheist, by some accounts. Doubtless some will critise them for being insufficiently Christian, and I invite discussion as to why you diagree,
