Reading/Read 'The God Delusion' by Richard Dawkins?
Giford Posted Nov 22, 2007
Hi Eff,
Yes, I've come to feel the same way. I'm tired of Vicky's refusal to debate anything at all. And in the kerfuffle, I think a couple of potentially interesting ideas got missed/dropped.

Nah - you knew I couldn't keep it up for more than twenty-four hours.
This from today's Grauniad on lesbian IVF mums and the power of prayer: http://www.guardian.co.uk/Columnists/Column/0,,2215088,00.html.

Now. Meantime.
It seems that this thread has generated some dangerous heat. It's in danger of exceeding Fahhrenheit 451 - or whatever the combustion point of a monitor is. This would attract the attention of the mods and the Italics, if it hasn't already, and unless everyone is very, very sensible could have some unpleasant consequences. This has happened before.
I understand that abusive things have already been posted to one contributor. I urge everyone's restraint. Possibly even mild satire - or even engagement with anyone unpleasant - are out of bounds for the moment?
Let's keep to the moral high ground, folks.

I note some puzzling removals of my posts 4784, 6 and 7. I've asked for clarification of the first - but I'm not sure what the policy is on giving explanations nowadays. I didn't think they were in anyway abusive or offensive - although my judgement may be flawed.
Anyway, this perhaps underlines my point about the need for great care at this time.

I can't remember what was in those posts now. I'd have to say that your posts have consistently been some of the least personal on this thread. Even I have ended up being ratty with Vicky.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but posts are yikesed by researchers, not the eds themselves? And then the eds investigate, before invariably deciding not to reinstate the posts?

Ed:
Re mild satire, engagement, etc. Gotcha. You are right, as usual, and right on time.
And BTW, I'm at this very moment listening to Mick Jagger belting out "Sympathy for the Devil" and K.R. doing one of the most incredible guitar riffs in the history of recorded music.
Now THERE'S GOD!!!! despite or because of the content and lyrics.
Have some courtesy, some sympathy and restraint. But Viki, what's puzzling me is the nature of your game! Sorry.

I've had (I believe) posts diretly removed by mods - mainly at weekends. I'm not sure about these ones.
One was a sincere invitation to join me in prayer. I can't imagine that any Researcher would want to Yikes it.

You're a man after me own heart, Big White. I've long maintained thatthose riffs are the greatest in Rock 'n Roll history.
Oddly enough, I recently read Mikhail Bulgakov's 'The Master and Margarita', which inspired the song.

Please all remember to stick to the spirit of h2g2 and rein in any impulse to get personal. We are not here to take sides but we will close this thread should it descend into a litany of personal digs, attacks, etc. This is not what the site is about and we will not tolerate it. The religion/atheism question is perennially difficult - it has vexed countless brilliant brains for many, many years. Stick to the subject, be respectful and rise above baiting.

A quote from the recently late Tony 'Anthony H' Wilson, from his last interview, on seeing The Sex Pistols famous Free Trade Hall gig:
"It all started when Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads, and when you saw Johnny Rotten up on that stage, you realised...actually...it was a pretty good deal."

Thank you editors for taking notice. I think it was needed.
I remain slightly disappointed that my posts have been removed - I don't think that they were nearly as contentious as some - but am content to shut up about it for The Greater Good.
Now. What were we saying about evolution...?

Ooh! Some more have gone now. This thread's got more holes than an Airship One newspaper.

Mine went too, but it did have a blatant insult in it so that's fair enough. 'Twas an early morning grumpy thing.

I'm a bit worried it was my rant which may have drawn the attention of the Mods. If that's the case, I'd like to fully apologise to everyone on here.
I spoke to EtB about his entirely justified rebuke, and I'll say it here - it was a worthless, futile post and I apologise that I wasn't better able to control my typing fingers.
