I think in order to make film 3 better they can lose the backward style grammar that Yoda continually spouted in Attack of the Clones. In the early films he had few lines and so it was OK but it really got on my in the second one during the battle sequence...

The 'hermit' was Obi Wan but was referred to as Old Ben at the beginning of the first Star Wars film.

Az - yes - just wondering where it came form, how did he pick up the nick-name?
cat-woman
JAR JAR - cute?????????
everything about it is annoyingly sick, from the voice, to the look to that inept stupidity. The fact that the empereror would possibly not have been able to get to power if not for Jar Jar bleedin binks is so laughable.

Why is the next Star Wars film going to be less than wonderful?
Two Words: George Lucas.
Poor Hayden Christiansen...in 'Clones' he had nothing to work with and was only really any good when paired with Ewan 'Scots Genius' McGregor. The romance between him and Amidala was rushed. The pivotal point of the story - Anakin falling for the love of his life - is glossed over while we waste time and valuable dialogue on C-3PO being awful and large set-piece battles.
Oh, and that thoroughly disappointing confrontation between Yoda and Saruman...err..sorry...who was that again?
The story, which is what will get people to suspend their disbelief first and foremost, suffered to make room for special effects.
The man who has to shoulder that responsibility is George himself.
Still, hopefully he'll have learned a trick or two from being comprehensively schooled by a certain P. Jackson of New Zealand and the now almight WETA Digital.

Flamestrike,
It was my take that he was called Old Ben (by Luke's uncle and aunt) so as not to refer to his actual status, so that Luke would not be tempted to seek him out.
As for Jar-Jar. ICK ICK and ICK again! What on earth possessed Lucas to come up with such a sickening character???
Personally I think he should have left well enough alone with the first trilogy. The new trilogy is (imho) a total waste of time.

I should say he was cute in Phantom Menace. In Attack of the Clones, he is an annoying blithering idiot! But I still think C3PO sucks and blows!

I think C3-P0 is a British thing *lmao* or at least agrees with out sense of humour.

I have to disagree, Flamestrike. The C-3PO/R2D2 partnership is as old as the hills: one tall and thin, the other short and far. They could be Laurel and Hardy, Abbot and Costello, Morcambe and Wise...the double act list goes on.
The humour in the first three films comes from their endless bickering. They're like a Jeeves and Wooster, one vocal and utterly incapable, the other quiet, confident and superbly skilled except that they argue constantly. This is where some of the wit comes in, because we only ever get to hear on side of the argument and it's C-3PO's, so the dialogue has to carry the R2 half of the conversation by implication - 3PO's reactions are what carry R2's personality.
In the new movies that's gone. There is no relationship to play off, so the dialogue has gone to heck. 3PO is stuck with increasingly tiresome 'funny' lines that are basically lumped in because 3PO is a 'comedy' character. The writing sucks.

Gradient, that's exactly what annoys me about C3PO... on his own he is *tiresome*!

Re: Monsieur Binks...
I think Bill Bailey and Simon Pegg put it best:
Bilbo: "What about the Ewoks? They were rubbish!"
Tim: "Yeah... but Jar Jar makes the Ewoks look like f**king Shaft!"
Why will the film be crap? Because most of the others are.
Be honest: the first was good fun. The second had a dark, surprising quality, but dragged badly in the middle. Don't even get me started about stone-age teddy bears defeating battle-bred troops who should be able to eat the SAS and Delta Force for breakfast. Phantom Menace had about five minutes of quality stuff in it, mostly when Darth Maul was on screen. Clones was a bit of a mess, and ILM just about managed to avoid making the Yoda fight scene ridiculous, which was an achievement.
So, out of five films so far, we've got a total of about one and a half good ones.
What I'd like to know is why anyone is still interested?

Its all the funky surreal bits that keep people coming back.
Oh, and some of the games have been quite good too. They're probably the only reason I ever bothered watching any Star Wars films.

...because you've already decided it will be.
The story following the two robots Lucas freely admits he "borrowed" from Akira Kurosawa's two peasants in " The Lost Fortress" - that Kurosawa's film also includeed a renegade princess leading a rebellious uprising aided by an ageing and wise warrior based in a hidden fortress whilst being hunted by an evil overlord intent on overtaking the area is neither here nor there...

The trouble with Leia is that she didn't *lead* anything - she was there just to scream and be rescued. The later (earler) films are better IMHO, with Padme Amidala actually *doing* things...

Did we watch the same films, Della?
Leia actually saves Luke and Han after they 'rescue' her.
Leia is the political leader of the rebellion.
Leia guns down a stormtrooper before being caught.
During her 'rescue' aboard the Death Star, Leia grabs the first gun she can get hold of and starts blasting.
She repeats this behaviour as often as possible throughout the trilogy. She does very little screaming. She doesn't do much getting rescued either!

azahar Posted Apr 7, 2004
Gradient,
I agree. Leia was the leader behind the rebellion and although she may have screamed on occasion in a tight spot, so did Hans Solo. But mostly, as you have pointed out, she came out guns blazing and often getting Luke and Hans to 'get with it' and start doing what they needed to be doing.
Even when she was tied up by Jabba the Hut she looked far more defiant than afraid.

And also strangles him to death, as I recall.
This is why we are treated to the irresponsible but irrepressable Amidala; Leia gets it from her mother.
Key: Complain about this post
