Well it seems a 48 year old man has been charged with all 5 murders so all must be happy with that, sure that does not mean found guilty at trial, but police must be pretty convinced they have a case.

Yes and that means we shouldn't be talking about it, in case we compromise any future trial.
I'll unsub now, before Blues arrives!

would you not rather see someone visit a prostitute than picking on a young child id rather see them made legal if it is going to stop child rape.

The media, after an initial frenzy, have now gone completely shtum on the Ipswich murders case.

As someone has been charged, the case is probably 'sub judice' - Whilst a court case is under consideration. Proceedings are sub-Judice and details cannot be disclosed. (definition from http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/glossary/latin.htm )
That way Juror's can't be influenced by media reports.

Which means the man accused for once will not be tried and executed by the papers. That´s a nice change.

I dont quite get the link between someone using a prostitute and someone being a peadophile. It seems to me the link is spurious. like saying people are more likely to eat pasties if they cant get a take-away curry... It's food, yes, but beyond that?

well would it not be better a person going to see a prostitute than a young child .

Xanatic Posted Jun 19, 2007
Yes but you can´t really compare that. I don´t see how a person who wants to have sex with a small child should get that desire fulfilled by going to an adult prostitute.

i cant see how any living been can get pleasure from a young child they should be locked in a closed unit.

I´m not disagreeing with that. I just don´t think wether people have access to prostitutes or not is going to change the situation regarding child abuse.

That's my point. I dont believe that, for instance, legalising and controlling brothels, would stop or affect child abuse in any noticeable way.
It would give women (and men) who wish to practice the oldest trade in the world the opportunity to do so safely, cleanly and with dignity and rights in terms of their employment conditions, maybe even pensions
People with violent dispositions and so on would not be so invisible. Beatings and rapes (yes, a prostitute can be raped.) would become less likely and better dealt with (one would hope).
I dont understand how giving prostitutes control over their lives and environment would be a bad thing. People pay for sex for myriad reasons. Not all are bad people. Probably most would not fall into using prostitutes if they had certain issues dealt with differently (low level mental health issues such as social anxiety driving people into loneliness and desperation perhaps?).
The reason, as far as I am concerned, that prostitution is seen the way it is here and now is because it is underground, seedy and usually is deeply involved with drugs and other criminal activity. If the prostitute is clean, healthy, happy and has genuine choices, they would be more legitimate and dignified than a porn star. Both have sex for money at the end of the day. One has it with other actors to please faceless hundreds, the other gives a personal one-on-one service that can positively, in the right situation, benefit people's lives.
*ahem*

Agreed prostitution should be legalised for all those reasons, but as in the same way there isn't a welks chance in a supernova that any UK government would ever legalise all currently illegal drugs, I very much doubt they'd ever find the political drive to go down the route of legalising prostitution and helping improve the quality of thousands of peoples lives.... Mind, likewise I see no connection between legalising prostitution and it helping reduce pedaphillia
they are two distinct quite differnt issues, and pedaphillia seems to be the current media obsetion and backdrop for the government to give in to unfounded fears created by the media and pass yet more pointless unnecessary laws that serve no purpose other than fueling the already blazing fire of pointless fear being created by the media.

Well, no. To actually tackle peadophilia they would have to be very invasive into families. This is, of course, not going to happen because the media will immediately whip up concern about being nannied. Sorry, but if we cannot or have lost the ability to self-police ourselves in order to protect our children, someone has to take responsibility.
Every blind eye turned not only contributes to the trauma and distress, but also contributes to a situation where an outside body may well one day take your rights away for the good of the victims. Legislation cannot differentiate between, say, parent's videoing their children for posperity or for less savoury reasons. What if this works its way down to the level of parents having to be supervised? Regular mandatory psychological profiles for all children to try to spot the signs?
It wont happen. Yet. Maybe if people had more imprtant things to worry about they wouldnt prey on the vulnerable and innocent?

I don't follow how the one thing would lead to the other.

Paedophiles just need a hobby, like stamp collecting or model airplanes.

It just seems that our idle minds (we dont have to really consider, as a whole, survival on a daily and immediate basis, do we?) find ways to express themselves. I suspect that under the rigours and hardships of, for instance, a hunter gatherer existence, there would be far less 'deviance' whether sexual or otherwise... When we have to depend on each other we have to work with each other... Well, after the initial pains. I guess the whole thing in the arena in New Orleans a few years back shows us that it gets worse before it gets better...
I know the hunter gatherer thing is an extreme, but I honestly think we create relatively artificial problems for ourselves because we have brains that were made to be stretched and used. If that is not channelled it leaves saggy brain power free to be twisted and manipulated or to find it's own entertainment. The amount of not-very-smart religious belief flying around is also, for me, testament to my theory.
I'm really not expressing myself well today, my apologies. *tired*

Seems to me that if you look at past societies with less material wealth, there has been even more cruelty and religious silliness.
