Awww life isn't all shit, but I guess it does involve allot of shit, in that what goes in must come out, and well, if your a gardener, you definately know that nutrients in shit are definately needed to spice up the soil...to get things to grow...and well....spiraling on up from there...
from shit,
comes life,
we need shit to live,
life makes shit,
so..
shit=life
*chuckles manically*

Go and read/watch Fight Club, that sums it up best. "We just are".

When your dead, your finished? How do you know that?
I don't think that when your dead your finished, you rot, yes, and go back into the cycle of things...so really I guess we never 'finished' at that point - just at a different state is all.
Guess I'm being difficult, you are right tho, live it and have fun, even the sad times...just the way you were presenting yourself it seemed like you were disillusioned and defensive.

>> ... the possibility of a non-corporeal intelligence (and therefore life) ... is fascinating. <<
Yes, it's one of the most fascinating ideas that western civilisation ever dreamed up. Our entire culture and way-of-Life is based on a religion which teaches that Life Eternal or Everlasting Life is attainable thru Faith.
Now sci-fi fans imagine themselves transferring their non-corporeal intelligence to some sort of computer storage facility. Maybe dreams do come true.

I really liked Ictoan's claim that fire is alive:
>> ..we can define fire as being alive:-
It consumes resources to keep itself going.
It moves around (thus active and mobile).
It is continually changing.
It grows if it can and multiplies.
It can even produce offspring.
Fire consumes organic matter and is
therefore made up of organic matter.
It 'breathes' ie requires oxygen, and
it can be killed if you remove the
requirements for its life. <<
It's easy to see why the really smart people still believe Fire is god. It doesn't require Faith, just more fuel. And with a moderate amount of attention it can be managed to serve positive ends.

Life hard to pin down, but I'd say that something is alive when it has the capacity to self-replicate and has a metabolism.
