Alien have shot at us! It's okay though, zoom out and you can see they missed the target! (Considering its proximity to the Nevada Atomic test site, it's probably something similar.)

Cool volcanic island - Tristan da Cunha - zoom out and the smaller (not smallest) island to the South West is called "Inaccessable Island".. cool!

'Coincidence? Unlikely considering our 'ancient' civilisations seemed to know more about maths than us.'

So . . .

The Ancients very carefully positioned their big pyramid an even number of seconds east and south of the future sight of Greenwich?smiley - erm

actually, 29 58 33.44 N 31 07 51.58 E lands one much more smack bang on the great pyramid.

Sorry, I love Google Earth, got up today at 9am and thought "ooh goody, I can get lots done today!" then switched on the PC.....

Oh, just looked more carefully: That's not the great pyramid; it's the little one next to it.

The Great Pyramid is at 29 58 44.38 N 31 08 02.57

I guess they *really* miscalculated the future location of Greenwich.smiley - winkeye

It's official - Douglas Adams was right - we are living on a giant supercomputer...

You can see the printed circuit board where the river's worn away the cover.

Now, can someone see if they can find Slartibartfast's signature somewhere on a Norwegian Fjord.

I would argue they're irrigated fields. Like these: 49 41 58.41 N 113 13 19.71

They are simply a long above ground irrigation pipe on a pivot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Center_pivot_irrigation

I tried this when the thread started, but was disappointed with how blurry my home town was. But I've just discovered Virtual Earth, which (for my area at least), makes things much clearer. I can even see my railer tent !

for the site.

From what I could see, Visual Earth has good resolution for the U.S., but the rest of the world is pretty much all a blur.smiley - erm

I can't see where you do the long/lat bit either, so it doesn't really fit with the fun that's being had on this thread.

Resolution is good on Scotland and you can see the new Eurofighter at RAF Lakenheath

Hey! It's been three weeks. Keep this thread going! I love it.

Here's one I'm fond of. 46 56 21 N, 97 59 50 W. The train bridge is three-fourths of a mile long and 162 feet high. You can see a train on the east end. It's about a mile north of my home.

We don't get those long trains here in Ireland.

They mine lignite coal in western North Dakota. Coal trains go past here that are longer than the bridge.
