Effers;England.

The problem is that we all hear about re-makes of great or memorable films, and that is going to be difficult. One of my favourite films is Cronenberg's The Fly. It's superb. And it's technically a remake of a little remembered 50s B film of the same name.

Nothing is too good to be attempted to be re-made. But it needs to have just as much artistic worth, even if going off in a different direction. Not just some boring updated thing done for a few bucks, which most so far have been.

I agree with all of that, well said Fanny.

I think a lot of the trouble is that modern film is even MORE conservative than the old stuff. They won't court controversy, are frightened to develop a storyline because our attention spans are too short, and can't give us anything but a happy ending in case we have to go into therapy.smiley - erm

You do realise that if they do re-make The Dambusters, as well as the dog being called Nigel (sheer brilliance), all of the planes will return from the mission after dropping their secret weapons. (The secret weapons will be an elite American task force disguised as oil drums who destroy rhe dams with their bare hands)smiley - biggrin

>And it's technically a remake of a little remembered 50s B film of the same name.<

Yep. It was 'so little remembered' that someone remembered to re-make it.
The original is a classic of its type. The re-make is strangely Cronenberg's best movie.
The Fly is the exception that proves the rule.

And Neil LaBute and Nocholas Cage can burn in a very painful hell. I would go and see their uterly pointless remake of The Wicker man just to be able to see how truly bad it is, but it woiuld mean giving them money. I'll not be bothering.

Primeval Mudd (formerly Roymondo)

I've seen advertising on busses and thought 'WTF?' I like Nicholas Cage but I can't for the life of me see how a remake could improve in the original.

I'm dreading 'Matt LeBlanc & Harvey Keitel' in 'I Smoked Withnail'.

Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughan, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Jack Black, Steve Carell and Christine Taylor in "Life of Brian"

(Although if Christine Taylor's going to get her kit off as Judith, I'd probably go and see that one)

Fanny you make a good point but after seeing what Peter Jackson did with LOTR I think I'm not going to rule out him improving on it.

I personally thought Braindead and Bad Taste were far superior to the nasty po-faced LOtR trilogy. But it seems that there I am in a minority.

Just to clarify what most people seem to have missed - Jackson will be producing the remake of Dam Busters. Not directing.

Preferable surely to another one of his so-called comedies?

>after seeing what Peter Jackson did with LOTR I think I'm not going to rule out him improving on it<

After seeing what Peter Jackson did with 'King Kong' I'm tempted to rule him out of being able to make a decent movie.

.I personally thought Braindead and Bad Taste were far superior to the nasty po-faced LOtR trilogy. But it seems that there I am in a minority.<

Blimey something me and B agree on! smiley - winkeye Though I would personally say 'The Frighteners' is actually Jackson's best movie.
