You're welcome, creachy. People need to find their senses of humor, for garsh's sakes! I agree about the general scratchiness of some of these threads.

Any names for the six-footer thread then
Hiya BR
Isabel was a strong Category 2 storm Wednesday, with wind near 110 mph and higher gusts, weakened from the weekend when it had 160 mph wind and held the top Category 5 rating on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. (I may be nuts, but I love storms)J would be storm-chaser

Yeah, it looks now as if the worst of it will be west of us. I'm glad. Don't want to vacuum 7 gallons of water out of the basement carpet (what's that in liters? 26.5) like we did in 1999 when Floyd blew past us on the coast.

Just a little something
(in the 22 September issue of Proc B p. )
Why are most men taller than women? This age-old height difference persists to this day, according to new research, because taller than average men and shorter than average women were found to be more successful in attracting a mate and having children.
Dr Daniel Nettle of the Open University used data from 10,000 men and women born in Britain in one week in March 1958 and his study concluded that the taller the men were, the less likely they were to be unmarried or childless 42 years later in 2000.
For the women, by contrast, those most likely to be married and have children by the same age were between 1.51m (4'9") and 1.58 m (5'1"), well below the average height of 1.62 m (5'3").
"It seems that tall men and petite women are favoured in evolutionary terms, even in a modern population, so the height difference between men and women is unlikely to disappear," Dr Nettle explained.

That's kind of disturbing - surely that means that the gap is not only here to stay - it's widening. Pretty soon Terry Gilliam will be making a future-shock movie with 8 foot men and 3 foot women....

Happy birthday in advance, creachy, and there will be a brand-new Hootoo just for you that day!
I've forgotten what Dent and Zantic were fighting about, though I do remember that my page had the honor of hosting their spat.

Dent: *Nothing* is wrong with it; I just don't think I've ever known anyone that tall. My husband is 6 f 4 and his brother is 6 f 6.
My mother is the same height I am _ 5 f 6, or was, till she started shrinking with age. My father is/was 5 f 8. My brother is 6 f 2.

No, other than better nutrition.
Brits seem to be tall, anyway. My father-in-law's family was English -- he was the only one born in America. He wasn't terribly tall himself but his kids were (daughter is 5 f 10.)

Has anyone noticed that the world isn't really made for tall people? It could be that I have a long upper body (6'1" with a 32" inseam) but there are few cars where I don't brush my head against the ceiling, few chairs that are comfortable, and lots of hanging things I bang my head on. Shops are the worst, I usually end up with the imprint of a dreamcatcher or windchime in my forehead.
Has anyone else noticed this or seen any research?
