Pumps definitely = plimsols or ballet shoes in my vocabulary.
Sounds more like canvas slip-ons to me! They would look daft with socks, I go with Blues, they're usually cheap enough to throw away when they get yukky.
What about those low cut socks with trainers? I think they look OK. Increased foot comfort & soaks up the sweat inside the shoes but leaves your ankles exposed.
Don't like capri trousers on men. Unless they're gondoliers or suchlike.

Some excerpts from Esquires (a poncey mens mag here in England) list of things not to do after your 30 that I saw in the paper last night.
1. Dont go on holiday in an all male group.
2. Dont quote "the office" (TV show) more than twice in a week.
26. Dont buy cheap wine.
3. Dont serve cheap food with expensive wine.
THIS MAGAZINE DO YOU THINK IT MIGHT HAVE ADDS FOR EXPENSIVE WINE AND WINE RETAILERS IN IT?
4. iIf you need a watch, dont buy one for less than £1OO.
HOW ABOUT ADS FOR EXPENSIVE WATCHES?
9. Never let your pants show above your jeans.
15. If you are wearing shors dont wear socks, it looks so naff.
WHERE WILL I PUT MY SHINPADS THEN?
16. If you happen to be follicly cahallenged dont attempt a bobby Charlton style comb over. Nobody will be fooled, it looks dreadful.
I SAY KNICKERES TO THE STYLE POLICE AND THE BUSINESSES THAT FINANCE THEM EXCEPT ON THE THE COMB OVER THING. THAT IS A WASTE OF TIME AND EFFORT.

Re the 'no pants above trousers' - have noticed lately the number of youngsters (admitedly under 30s) wearing shorts or trousers so loose that they are almost at crotch level, which when no top is worn, reveals in contrast rather conventional underwear.
Is this a look they actually cultivate?

Yes, it ranks in absurdity with the with the jumpers I used to wear as at 16 that had a perfecly good Vneck and then a sort of zip up collar as well. These were generally teamed up with ridculously baggy chinos.
oh the shame.

I am a "youngster" (20) i do have my trousers lower than my underware but only just e-nuff to show off the brand name, not everyone has them hanging off there nutsack its just down to person taste (which i have lots of) i also agree with most of them rules mentioned above you need to take some measures to uphold some class/style.

OK, if we're talking trends amongst young (under 30) males then what is this all about that I saw on TV the other day?
It is a practise apparently called the "Back, crack and sack" and involves hair removal with wax. Dead trendy by all accounts. I leave it your imagination where the hair removal takes place.
Can't say I'd heard of it until the BBC decided to enlighten me the other night.
Anyone up for it? Not me guv...

Its a ghetto thang. Designer underwear is a cheaper option than designer jackets etc... so people show the labels to show how much class they have. People who dont have a lot of wealth sometimes feel the need to be conspicuos when they posses anything of relative value.
Golf gloves.
Gold teeth.
Flashy trainers.
Loud sound sytems.
Heavy Jewellery etc...

Have you considered buying normally priced underwear and just wearing your trousers properly?

At least 60% of my pants are not fit for public viewing, although having a waistline that is prone to inexplicable rapid change, I do have a few pair of jeans that will fall down inadvertently.

In my experience 90 % of the Calvin Klein boxers people wear were either bought at Matalan for £3.99 or are fake.

I dont buy normaly priced anything, i like a life of style/expence. All this moaning about what other people do and the way they look is pointless i dont go about moaning because of how others dress simply put if you don't like it. dont do it and dont look. After all everyone is free to express them selfs how they see fit so if i choose to wear expensive trainers or lots of jewlery thats my choice and the same applys at the other end of the scale eg people who wear black with face paint all the time. Just be your self the YOU wanna be.

**wonders if it's illegal to go around asking people if you can see the receipt for their pants**

Probably not illegal as such, but possibly hazzardous to health if some big bloke doens't like the tenor of the question when you put it to his girlfriend....

You can get a "Back Sack and Crack" on Pitt Street in Sydney for $20 when the gay and lesbian mardi gras is on - so all the transvestites don't look like Harry from Harry and the Hendersons when parading through King's Cross in their sparklies...
