Mudhooks: ,,, busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest... Posted May 23, 2003
The beer commercial where the guy is peeling the label off his bottle and the girl in the bikini is doing the same with her bikini.... Saw an interview with a rep from the ad company that said it was about "life in Rio"... So go show it in Rio.
Funny.... when was the last time you had a beer commercial geared to women instead of 19 year-old college students or boogie-boarders... Lowest common-denominator stuff (at best).
Those stupid shampoo commecials where women are having orgasms from washing their hair... if only it was that easy, my friends.... I'd be happy if a shampoo JUST CLEANED MY HAIR!
Motrin commercials with "The Song That Never Ends"....
Commercials that play 4 times in a commercial break or play 4 nearly identical versions of the same commercial in the same commercial break. This includes the above mentioned Motrin commercial, the Quaker Oats commercial, ANY of the car commercials aimed at men under 30, those "paid advertisements", and tv station promos....
Here in Canada, there are a number of channels which, between midnight and 4 am, feature these "singles club" paid advertisements which are thinly (and I mean THINLY) disguised telephone sex and "escort" ads. They all have these scantily clad women either doing exotic dancing or rolling about in the surf.... And every one of them looks like a hooker, including the one with the stainless-steel bikini (kid you not).
There is another "dating" spot that comes on as a commercial spots which talk about "singles in your area. One of the guys is supposed to run his own IT company, has bad dreadlocks, and "enjoys romantic walks to the convenience store"... WoooHooo.... Lame... very, very lame....

The AOL ads with 'Connie' were guaranteed to get me changing channels. Thankfully they seem to have dropped those ads, but the new ones aren't that much better.

That one where you hear Amanda Burton going on & on about the one rate loan, borrow money at just one rate, 8.3%, the ONE RATE LOAN! then just before the end she quickly says, "other rates may apply"!?
It seems you can claim anything as long as you contradict it quickly & quietly.
Also Bonus Cash-Builder Plus confuses me: you give them £10+ a month & they give you a "free" pen &you may not get your savings back!? Are people that stupid?
But the one that makes me cringe is that awful "'Allo Vera" line in that ad for... erm, can't remember now. Gee, advertising really works, doesn't it?
Oh, & that one where that weirdo shouts "BOGOF"! (I said yer Buy One, yer Get One Free)
Phew, that rant was quite therapeutic.

There are two ads at the moment that feature Aloe Vera. One's Persil liquid - an animated ad. The other's set in a supermarket - a voice says 'Allo' in a Leslie Phillips-type voice as the checkout girl scans the item. I can't remember the brand, but I suspect that's for detergent as well.
These ads don't make me cringe, beyond the fact that a useless substance has been added to a product. I want detergent to get my clothes clean. Other than that, I don't care!
