Social Constructs - what good are they?
Acid Override - The Forum A1146917 Posted Jun 9, 2003
I just asked the question.
You assumed there was no answer.
Maybe I'll sell the glass and use the profit to get a cat.

btw if anyones reading this thread for the first time and has something to say on the actual topic of the thread go right ahead.
Then again if tangents are what we want then lets keep at it!

I'd say go for the cat.
btw, anyone reading a thread for the first time should *always* read at least the first two pages and the most recent last two pages (not that in this instance the last two pages would have been of any help to anyone trying to figure out what this thread is about).
Anyhow, the fact that you want to get rid of your glass, not even caring if it is full, just shows what a pessimist you are The only saving factor is that you thought of trading it in for a cat. So there is still hope for you yet.

Ok, I'm too young to know what cranky means. Sorry.
I'm also too inexperienced with my drinks to know what rioja is. Still, that's never stopped me before
Yes, go for the cat. Cats are nice and warm and soft. Well, as long as you aren't a small furry rodent

What do you mean. I own a cat (Mattise) and my sister owned a hamster (Rimski)
Mattise 0 - 2 Rimski
Well, I've had him since I was six, so I suppose he's getting on a bit. But being beaten up twice by a hamster...
And I would *never* trade my cat who I've known for 12 years for a glass, regardless of what it's filled with.

Rioja - full-bodied Spanish red wine from the Rioja region of northern Spain. There are also white and rose riojas, but they aren't so famous.
So, you guys are just pulling my leg about not knowing about the half-full half-empty glass thing, right? Optimism vs pessimism?

Half of the glass is full and half of the glass is empty. Simaltaneously.
This is realism as I see it - the thorough exploration of as many viewpoints as possible.
Now what does cranky mean?

Cranky = Cantankerous
Does that help?

The optamist thinks the glass is half full
The pessamist thinks the glass is half empty
The realist thinks both at once
The pragmatist drinks his fill and heads off to find lunch
Cranky - kinda slightly aggrovated, a tendacy to snap at people, not violently so much as noisily. Just get yourself a copy of Donkey Kond country and go to Krankys cabin a lot, you'll get the idea.
Everything I leared that was ever worth learning I leared from gaming

Acid,
Learn to spell, wouldja?
Optimist, pessimist, aggravated, tendency! Sorry, I teach English to Spanish people and know how ridiculous English spelling is (not unlike Aussie rugby, or is that football? - no rules!). But still.
My best definition for cranky is my female cat Lua. The crankiest thing on four paws she is. But since none of you are here to have the Lua experience then I'd say your definition, Acid, was quite a good one.
Gaming?

Carefull. I know a lot of people worse than me. If you continue to criticise my spelling I'll start using 1337 'till you beg me to go back to my usual spelling. If I feel the need to obsfucate myself further I can also start using German, Psuedo-Code and the dreaded First Order Predicate Calculus. A few spelling mistakes are not so bad.
The thing about gaming was that I was trying to remember how I learned the word kranky and it occured to me that it was playing a game called Donkey Kong Country (Not Kond as origionally stated) Since far too much of my knowladge somes from gaming (be it wargames, boardgames, computergames, roleplayinggames etc.) I quoted a line I heard someone use once. It was a throwaway comment really undeserving of this paragraph of explination.

Acid,
Did you mean - cranky?
Anyhow, how could anyone above the age of five, with or without the help of games, NOT know the word cranky??? The mind reels. What are they teaching you kids at school these days? Certainly not spelling or vocabulary!!!
And don't you go threatening me with German or I'll start writing to you in Spanish and then we will both be moderated and all of our postings will be hidden.
pedantically yours,
az

THE PROBLEM WITH MOST KIDS TODAY IS THEY ARE NOT TAUGHT ANY DISCIPLINE! WHICH THEY MIGHT HAVE IF THEY HAD BEEN TAUGHT BETTER MANNERS!
I AM A MANAGER AT A DEPARTMENT STORE AND I SEE HOW SOME OF THEESE KIDS ACT AND I AM TOTALLY SHOCKED!!! DID YOU KNOW THAT IT IS A COOL THING NOW FOR TEENAGE GIRLS TO PEE ON CLOTHES IN THE FITTING ROOM? MAYBE IF THEY HAD BEEN TAUGHT MANNERS THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER EVEN THOUGHT OF DOING THAT. I HAVE HAD 13 YEAR OLDS CUSS AT ME ( I MEAN REALLY CUSS) IN FRONT OF THEIR PARENTS AND THE PARENTS DON'T EVEN BLINK AN EYE! WE NEED MORE SOCIAL GRACES AND IT NEEDS TO BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOL! I TRUELY THINK THAT IS WHAT'S WRONG WITH AMERICA TODAY!!!!!!!
P.S. BE NICE TO THE SALESPEOPLE THEY ARE ONLY MAKING $6-6.50 AND HOUR AND THE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH ALOT!! SO BE THANKFUL IF THEY CAN ACTUALLY FIND THE TIME TO HELP YOU OR EVEN SMILE AT YOU AFTER BEING SCREAMED AT BY THE CUSTOMER BEFORE BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT TAKE BACK THE SWEATER THEY HAD BEEN WEARING EVERY WEEK FOR THE LAST YEAR.
SORRY IT'S A SORE SUBJECT FOR ME (AND I REALLY DO MEAN SORRY!)

hi Bouncy,
Yes, I was going to comment on that too.
The caps look very aggressive and 'shouty', though perhaps that is intentional given the emotional content of the postings.
