Cheerful Dragon Posted Jul 14, 2014
My current Petty Hate is living so far from the hospital where Mum is currently a patient. Hubby works nights, so the only time we can go to see her is at the weekend. It's a one hour drive each way, and Mum isn't always awake when we get there. Sometimes we can wake her, at other times she won't wake and probably wouldn't be very good company if she did wake. (I do have a driving license but I don't like driving, not even to visit Mum in hospital.)

Mine is my terrible lack of self-discipline, and always being tired. I have people coming to stay on Wednesday and still have no end to do to get the place ready. Beds are made up but the rest is a tip.

PH- those ice cube trays from which ice is hard to extricate.

Sometimes running hot water over the back the tray helps.
Ice trays in a stack frozen together...

Logging into here seems to be my petty hate just now?
I get in eventually, but when I try to change over to my favourite Brunel layout, I get sent to a page where I'm given a new Researcher number, and all my history, and home page details are gone, even all my Snippets?
I can't work with this Alabaster lay out at all

Once I'm in to Brunel, I drag and drop the URL bar header to the 'home' button and thereafter 'home' opens Brunel, while 'front page' will always put you back in Pliny.

Cheers for that, but I can't drag and drop on this I/Pad?
PS. The page I'm on now, shows me as a new researcher, and all my 12 years if data has gone?
I don't think I will manage to get back in here again now, but, it was fun over them years.

I'm on a tablet at the moment, not familiar with the iPad.
Handled the shift to Brunel here by means of going to preferences, logging in there to Brunel, then to bring it up, go to what they call

'Top Sites' (accessed by means of tapping the top left cornet ofthe web browser) and tap on a Brunel window.
The web browser I'm using is Firefox for Android with a Chrome OS.
The entire system is buggy as all get out, but works reasonably well much of the time.
I certainly will miss your humor if you're gone for very long, Smudged.

Your pardon Smudger.
Machine error.
(It just tried to do it again.)
There'sva considerable controversy in the forums at the moment on Google keyboard and when, or whether,Google is going to correct the problem.
As of the latest update it cannot be disabled from systems anymore and so has to watched constantly tly, since its auto corrections are correct fewer than three times in a thousand at my current count.

Smudger, you've got two accounts open.
When you log into one it seems to force you into Pliny.
The simple way around this is to log in, get into Brunel, and then bookmark the page. Then you just have to use that bookmark to get back into it if you get logged out.
Or failing that, you could just try staying in Pliny

Pliny sucks.
...
Admittedly, I'm sure, not from a programming perspective, but you know what I mean.

ITIWBS Posted Jul 17, 2014
"Front Page" will always put you back into Pliny.
The number 1 remaining probLem with Pliny is that internal links posted in the conversational threads still don't work, an important reason for using Brunel instead.
Also, Brunel is easier on my eyes.

Pastey Posted Jul 17, 2014
Internal links work if you paste the whole url in them. Like this: http://h2g2.com/forums/A148907/conversation/view/F19585/T8309849/page/1/#P110870154 I'm currently rewriting all the APIs, which'll mean that things like the short links will start working properly across all skins again.

"Front page" in goo takes you to the front page in goo.
If you want the Pliny front page (e.g. for latest activity and the latest new entries) you have to click on the link in the sentence >>This used to be the Front Page of h2g2, but it is no longer updated, all updated Front Page material is now found here <<
Suits me fine.

It's because we can't update the code in the old skins anymore, we've done as much as we can. And it's just not possible to keep manually updating the Front Page with the limited volunteer resources that we have.

"When did you last use it?"
I don't remember exactly. Not more than a couple months ago. Like ITIWBS, my complaints are purely aesthetic in nature.
Petty Hates
Pastey Posted Jul 17, 2014
If it's aesthetic, carry on
We are updating and bringing the old skins over to the new framework though, it just takes time.

I personally think it would be nice if one could cycle through a number of variations on Pliny, from the current high noon northern sky scape, to magenta sunset with a western exposure, to midnight black with faintly phosphorescent clouds, to a golden dawn with an eastern exposure and rays of hope marked out by the clouds.
Unfortunately, I'm not a software designer and haven't currently got time to learn.
Ditto it would be nice to have a variety of themes to choose from for text material.
Key: Complain about this post
