Feet on bus seats is more than a petty hate though. It's disgusting and I would happily see passengers being fined on the spot for doing it, or thrown off the bus; preferably both. £50-100 oughta do it.
I just don't want bits of dog poo, mud, spit, fast food, grease, etc, etc on my clothes and eventually transfered to my own furniture.

Actually, playing devils advocate for a moment; people would be far less tempted to put their feet on the back seats if the seats were lower. For some reason, all but the tallest of folk have to perch uncomfortably on these seats due to their greater height than the standard seats.

PH: when people assume the worst
(I assumed she took her shoes off before putting them up)
(for one thing, its more comfortable that way)

Speaking of shoes, my PH is when you re-tie the laces on one shoe, then have to stop about five steps later and tighten the other one because you're now lop-sided.

Assuming the worst based on a lot of observation. I have never seen anybody take their shoes off before putting their feet up on the bus, and I've seen a *lot* of people putting their feet up on the bus.
Besides which, fluffy, you're not exactly a stranger to assuming the worst about people.

Sorry, that's nonsense. One person can pick something apart perfectly adequately.

"I assumed she took her shoes off before putting them up"
Oh aye, I can really see that happening on a bus in the UK, especially Scotland's central belt . You get some very funny looks whenever you remove any item of clothing on a bus and taking off shoes on a bus here would most likely lead to your socks absorbing someone's body fluids fairly rapidly.
But it's nice and quaint that you make such optimistic assumptions

Fluffy, serious question: do you mean long haul bus journeys or just popping down the shops?
I cannot imagine removal of shoes on the latter kind of journey being at all practical (unless everone wears slip ons and doesn't mind having to hunt under the other seats for them at the end of the journey).

And to clarify I'm talking about short journeys here. Standard suburbs-to-centre type stuff in a medium-sized town.

Indeed; also, the way the buses are driven across the pot-hole infested streets here, if you took your shoes off and didn't hold onto them, they'd be flung from one end of the bus to the other multiple times throughout the journey! Our roads in the UK have been compared to those of a 3rd world country on more than one occasion.

Many of our local roads became cracked because an old coal mine's roof collapsed, causing subsidence and huge road repair bills

If I put my feet up on the seat opposite me in a train or a bus, I put a newspaper on there first. I wouldn't take my shoes off in public, as much as I walk around bare foot at home or at work.
Cue PH from some male in the thread re people taking their shoes off in the office ..
