on the subject of noise, theres a busker who plays the same twangy tunes all day every day just outside my office.... every day all day..... he drives me mad.... i used to quite like the 2 songs he plays on his electric guitar with crappy backing tape at 11 on his amp, but now i want him shot.

Hmmm, I've been thinking about a career change, perhaps there's a gap in the market for a hit-man who deals in buskers! Mind you, 'they' do say not to mix business with pleasure

invincibledriver,
It could be worse (just) - have a look at the previous post - believe me when I say that a mating koala is NOT something you want to hear
Here, in the city of Sydney all I've got to put up with is gangs of marauding rainbow lorikeets in the morning (noisy buggrs, but fun), fruit bats (aka flying foxes) in the trees in the evening (love them) and the occasional possum in army boots in the roof at night.
I love the fact that there is so much wildlife (I'm just 10km from the CBD)

i guess things can always be worse, but then again that might also be the point at which these hates become not so much petty, and more dangerous borderline flipout

I can't stand people just standing on the street shouting across the road, or sometimes across the doorstep, at eachother. Pack it in or take it in, don't bother me.

It has to be said that some buskers are truly truly awful. The worst offenders seem to be the 'opera' singers that use amplification. They put themselves slap bang in the middle of the high street and there really is no escape. I suppose some of them think they will be 'discovered' by somebody important walking past.

People who don't trouble to keep their voices down while in a library. I gave one of them a bit of a look and he said to the girl he was with "We're disturbing people." Did she shut up? Of course not. Eventually she left, only to return half an hour later.

People from the cities who have no idea how to drive on a tight one lane country road and when they see me they just swear and gesticulate with one finger usually (I sometimes drive a truck).
And if I'm pushed...people who live in the cities who move into the country and then bemoan the lack of facilities or designer label casual wear, lattes, baguettes or god forbid the complete lack of mobile phone(cell)coverage.
Go away.
You could move back to where you belong and the problem of people talking on phones becomes a topic of substance.

I am so whith you on that one!
One guy moved in to the village and then moaned that the sheep were waking him up in the morning.

If the truth be known, then I'm barely able to conceal my complete contempt for these people seeking 1 acre and redemption for the mess they made/make in the City.
Start your conversion to all things good, by doing something in your urban environment like using crappy public transport to commute to work instead of your car and just leave me to clean out Farmer Giles Pigsty so you can enjoy Pancetta and Prosciutto on your sourdough drizzled with Early cold pressed virgin olive oil and rather nippy buffalo cheese...

Ooh, non-flushing of toilets is one of my petty hates too... especially people who insist on not flushing during the night because it might wake people up. Personally I'd much rather be woken up by a flushing toilet than end up in hospital with some awful infection.

Even with dual flush toilets now using only a minuscule amount of precious h2o, over here where we are in what some now call the worst drought since white settlement 200 odd years ago, some folk have now taken to only flushing number two's and using a euphemism from a previous water restriction period: "Yellow is mellow".
At the present time I know many households who flush in the morning and before bed just so their water will go just that bit further.
My hate at the moment is green lawns because it means someone is wasting water while my family and I shower in a large nappy bucket. We have to be finished before the water reaches the top.
Feel free to send any excess rain down here...
