abbi- i got the first film for christmas cos i kept nagging for it. none of my friends believed it was based on fact. do you think people deny because 'they can't handle the truth' or is it just pure ignorance that blinds them? trusting science is fine by me but to bullishly ask the same questions over again just because the answers don't suit them is just rude. thats not at you of course abbi, the intended targets know who they are. all i am saying is the old cliche 'open your mind'. for example i could ask a follower of science 'how did we get here?' and listen with amusement as they tread through the minefield of theories. then when they had answered the best they can i would ask 'where are we going?' and then i would ask 'why?'. no-one in the scientific community can put their hand on their heart and tell me they know it all to be fact, there just isn't an answer to everything unless you break the rules and use your imagination and the common sense that bred the fear into mankinds dna in the first place.

But then *to open your mind* doesn't just mean to *OTHER* possibilities. It means *all*...

I love science and reason. I have science, reason, faith, and humor, most every *good* day of my life. I want them all~~ My life would not be so full if I did not believe in things unseen and unproven. The opposing opinions could say that I *need* to believe that! I do *shrug* It is faith in things unseen including MANY science theories! I have seen things well accepted as real, I do not believe IN OR want to be true! I have an aversion to black and white thinking *thinking no one has the answers* The spirits seen and felt by me have ALWAYS been a comfort and have often involved electricity or another energy. My husband whom felt the being on our bed did believe it for that week. Because it does not fit his rational reality he would probably say he barely remembers it or not at all. He ceratinly would not say IT WAS A SPIRIT, at the most he would not say much commital~~~Oh he just came in YEP>*husband approving of the statement about him* love em anyway

With reference to the Amityville house, I heard it was a rumour spread by the film company that it was based on a true story. I've never seen the film but apparently, the site was haunted because of Native American devil worshippers? (If I am wrong ignore me ) Now this cant be true as Native American had no God, so therefore no devil.
Well, thats what I was told anyway...

Born... all the experiments I am aware of, are inconclusive at best.
I would mistrust any experiment carried out by, well, folk like you, as much as one done by the Raelians.
as for dragging us; obviously we do not care to be dragged, so kindly cease.

Amityville- there had been murders there, AFAIK they were real. The films were initially based on 'true events' (although they were called into question, as always happens) but when they ran out they just made stuff up.
to some followers of some religions, Native Americans would be devil-worshippers since they don't have the 'correct' God.

As you wish. I shall leave you all in the eighteenth century then!
But do try and stay on topic! Fireflies? Ball lightning? Holywood horrors!

Hollywood changed the stories of the houses events ( like all they touch)NOT the event or the people that lived it. Maybe you watch too many bad movies. The topic IS hauntings.

It's a shame when people start silly bickering (perhaps you could try this thread... http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F19585?thread=197502 - though you don't need to read the blog, just go to the end and carry on the theme!), everybody is entitled to their own opinions after all. It's a shame that Randi is unable to accept that there are some weird things in the world that can't be explained by science (yet). Eclipses used to be dragons eating up the sun, the Northern Lights were probably attributed to ghostly goings on in the past. You can't really prove that 'ghosts' are in fact spirits of people until one of them says "Hi!" and invites you into a discussion about the 'other realm', is willing to go on chat shows to explain what happens after death etc.! Who knows why we mostly only see these things at night, could be something to do with the change in atmosphere, natural electricity, the natural waves that migratory birds see but we can't.. any number of things! I'm certainly not going to say they don't exist just because we haven't discovered the factual truth yet. One day, perhaps we'll figure it out. I wouldn't like to see one though, it'd

My own opinion on Ghoasts is that that they are distortion of perseption in those with a chemical and pschological pre disposition caused by EM fields... but I couldn't say I know of any research to support this opinion...
