...a single called "Underwater Love" that came out in the mid 90's? Sung in Portuguese/English, I'm not sure whether it made number one status. I know the video that went with it was full of images being reversed/fast forwarded...a girl with blonde hair?? I don't know who it was by, but I am trying to get hold of it...does anyone else know any details?

Yes I do, but I can't remember much about it or what it sounded like.
Was it used in an advert by any chance?

Never heard of it.
Does this ring a bell?
Nina Miranda is the voice in the music underneath the new Levi's ad (in which a drowning man is rescued by mermaids), a small splash of truly invigorating and fertile post-trip hop fusion that comes on like a cross between Portishead, Bjork, Nico, Astrid Gilberto, Serge Mendez, Santana, Jane Birkin and the Salsoul Orchestra.
"Underwater Love" is Miranda and Smoke City's ticket to ride - but it's also only a minute flicker of Smoke City's massively eclectic take on music. When was the last time you read about a band where the lead singer whispers and wails in English, Portugese and French, that lists their influences as, variously, Bob Marley, Brazil's Luiz Eca Tamba Trio, West African and Indian percussion rhythms, the films of Frederico Fellini, Carmen Miranda, Marvin Gaye, JJ Cale, the Beatles, KRS One, Grandmaster Flash, Burning Spear, John Coltrane, the Specials, the Sunday afternoon jazz sessions at Dingwalls, Gene Kelly in "Singing In The Rain", Santana, Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, and Joan Armatrading.

This needs more Googling
Fact was that the agency involved in finding the right music for the ad had spent several fruitless months diving in the bottomless well of music when they came up with a copy of 1995's "Rebirth Of Cool" compilation upon which nestled Smoke City and "Underwater Love".

House music? Really? That isn't how I remember it. Go figure...
I thought it was older than '97...ooh. Now I feel old.
Thankyou!

....a song from the late 70's called 'CONVOY U.K.' performed by 'LORRY LINGO & THE DIPSTICKS' ????
They were a group of very talented radio 1 d.j's. from that time. I'd love to be able to get a copy, especially if I could download from the internet.

Lorry-Drivin' Man
About a year and a half ago, we discovered the existence of a parody of "Convoy", called "Convoy G.B." (as in "Great Britain"). Finding a copy of the record has proved nearly impossible; but last December, Alan Chafin sent to us an MP3 file [via FTP; 2.8 MB] of the song. We had intended to transcribe the lyrics back then, but as usual real life reared its ugly rear and we never got around to it.
And then, just this very day (Sunday, 29 July), Bill Longley wrote to us and said, "I have a copy of the single - sorry, I'm not parting with it! - but I could have a go at transcribing the lyrics for it. (In fact, I have already had a partial attempt for friends on the newsgroup alt.callahans.)"
Well, as we're feeling pretty lazy here at the Legend-News offices — the weather's too warm and muggy, and the air conditioner's out-of-order — we jumped at the opportunity for someone else to write the lead article for the newsletter.
About the song: "Convoy G.B." was recorded by Laurie Lingo and the Dipsticks, who were actually BBC Radio 1 DJs Dave Lee Travis and Paul Burnett. The song was released in early 1976, and reportedly reached number 4 on the British pop chart.
The complete lyrics can be found at

Ooooooops Sorry to hijack your thread but I didn't realise it was a private one. I had tried to get info previously on the record but had failed. All I wanted was info and did not intend to step on anybodys toes.
Regards, Colin.

I remember the advert, lots of blonde pretty mermaids swimming around a drowning bloke wearing only a pair of levis....i think they were all kissing him/breathing into his mouth.
this must be underwater love, the way I feel slipping all over(?)
(probably one for the misheard lyrics thread)

If there is an MP3 file available I'd really like to download it as I've searched the charity shops and record fairs for a few years but failed to get a copy. I'd really like to hear it again as I can't sing it as good as "Super Scout & Plastic Chicken".
Regards, Colin.
