When the Balloon was scrapped the beeb had a big hoo-haa to promote the dancers. On Breakfast they had some bigwig spouting something like "it more closely reflects the multi-diversity of British society". Statements like that always lead to a broadbased

I 2 like the to. Or something like that....
But I don't think a similar "1" would work. BBC2 has a different identity from BBC1 - being slightly more alternative, minority orientated and edgier. Just generally better, really.

The 2, by the way, has won awards for being so cool.
I used to love the one made of the ends of fibre optic cables (or made to look like that...) which used to swish about on the screen, and was frequently used before episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The bright yellow plastic 2 that popped out of the bubbly bath water was also good, as was the venus fly trap, the one that jumped out of the grave, and the 'barking dog' one that did backflips. Oh, and the Dalek 2.
The new ones are also good. I like the one that spots a spot of dirt on the screen and polishes it off, and the one that chases spots.

I love the 2, but I don't think 1 one would do - the 2 has done it and it wouldn'tbe on to pinch 2s wonderfulness. I don't like the dancers, but liked the balloon - the 2 is still lots better.
I really really really hope they never lose the 2.

I'm very much a fan of the BBC Balloon, I'm sad to see it go. I doubt the BBC would pay a blind bit of notice of any campaign to see it's return, though.
I *love* the BBC2 idents! Long may they reign.

They keep saying they do listen to the viewers......but is that just hot air?
Funny, the Minack dancers seem popular, but I like them least, probably because they're movements are not spot on together. (Too critical, that's me)
I seem to recall a 2 in a grave (perhaps I'm easily pursuaded too). They do have some short lived appearances for special programmes/events, so maybe this was one of them.

It was used before Buffy a lot.
Like the Dalek 2 appeared when they showed some Doctor Who.

Or the '2' being 'beamed' somewhere for Star Trek Night.

Still, better than the horses and table cloth adverty thing for Stella on Channel 4. It'd never work!
The rugby players thingy on 2 isn't too bad. I do know the word but don't know how to spell it and am thus avoiding using it so I don't appear stupid.
Too late I guess

Hmmm, I seem to have missed that one
For anyone who doesn't know the above advert is shown at the begining and end (with a few slight variations) of EVERY SINGLE advert break when they show a film...

I think that is quite handy - I can wander off and do something else but when i hear that tune that goes with it I know it is time to settle down again

It's called 'sponsorship', but it's usually accomplished with a bit more variation than that. Domino's Pizza sponser The Simpsons on Sky One, and they have a fairly large selection of clips to use around the far-too-frequent breaks. Unfortunately, they're not very good at picking a variety for each program, and you often see the same one three times or so over the course of the 7-8pm Simpsons time each weekday.

The thing the rugby players do is the 'haka' (I think) and it's one of the 'dancers' things on BBC 1, not BBC 2. All the BBC 2 idents involve a '2' in some way.

The Maori Haka stays and they go back to whatever it was they were doing before the "Globo"...

I quite like the BBC Choice dancing boxes, but I'm really hoping for something dead funky on BBC Three when that launches...
