Neglected words

I like to try and get the odd 'albeit' into conversations, notwithstanding my incorrect pronunciation of such

I must remind you that "munchkin" in itself is a most excellent word, with a fine crisp scottish sound to it, or, is it said elsewhere but just sounds better in scot's? Please inform me!
(it may be a bit like "naughty" in english sound, cos it sounds like knot-hey in scotland, but oh so sexy in an english voice)

...that I never seem to use in ordinary conversation are Avant Garde, Jalopy, Gadzooks, Imbecile. One word which my wife adores because she found it funny pronouced by Stephen Fry is Turbulent. I dunno, either.smiley - laugh

Have we had "gobbeldegook" yet? "Take it down, Darling. I like it, and I want to use it in future conversation!"
I only hope he gets the permanent gig on HIGNFY.

Myriad - the most excruciatingly misused word in the English language (but not by me, obviously).
Also, seminal (as in defining, not "of or pertaining to semen")
Also, pertaining, portentous and philanthropic

aka - Fry has been touted as one of the possibles, along with Robinson (wince), Sargeant et al. I think Jez Clarkson should be considered, by virtue of him being a son of Rotherham...

I'd love to see Fry doing that gig, but I can't see him as a gameshow host, really - He's better in scripted comedy (although I have heard rumours about that show smiley - winkeye)

It's a small gripe, but for us pedants it's an important one.

People use it as meaning "lot", as in "a myriad of colours" BUT it really means "many", as in "myriad colours". Most people on here would probably be aware of this, as you all seem to be rather intelligent, but many in the real world misuse it and it bothers me. Perhaps I need help.

"not that i use it a lot..."

You could say, Clelba, that you "don't use it myriad", but that sounds smiley - weird to me smiley - erm

that would translate as "i don't use it many", which is a bit cock-eyed.

I've completely disregarded the actual meaning of what myriad is, and been confused by what some people seem to think it means.. smiley - sorry, that happens sometimes smiley - erm
