42 Nighthoover threads could die on the head of a pin
IctoanAWEWawi Posted Aug 19, 2005
Anyone had a look at the 'Retrieve my details' page recently on their PS? I hadn't for a while so I dunno if this is new or not, but at the bottom of that page is a link that says:
"Alternatively you can cancel your entire membership ."
?

So... I go to the Retrieve my details tab... I find that my email address is out of date... So, I change it...
I am locked out of h2g2!
I'm at work... away from my home email... I have to reply to an email at home to reaccess h2g2.
Oh, I could still read posts and all, but I can't reply. And the My Convos thingy is in stupid mode (the old version that doesn't show all the info and marks all posts as unread).
Well, I can't justify a forty minute round trip to the house just to reply to that email and get my account working again...
Luckily I also forgot my cell phone at home!
I'm BACK!

Do you think that it is time to throw out the Nighthoover and replace it with a NightDyson?
Then this whole thread would never lose its suck.

Lo, for the dust doth multiply and grow deeper and darker and danker and lo for as the dust doth collected so the dust does deepen, and in the darkest, dankest deepest dust does the dust bunny lay, waiting and winding its time, but lo for the hoover of the night does sucket deep of the deep dark dank dust and the hoover of the night also does not care for time as time is as as it is as it is as time it is n i g h t h o o v e r

Do we really want the venerated Nighthoover to be forced to wander the corridors and under-bed spaces of dust and gloom for ever?
Sadly, Nighthoover has been absent and his suck has been silent these many months. Surely this is a sign that he has sucked his fill of our earthly dusts and has transcended beyond the Dusty Event Horizon.
It is written in the dust; we must permit Nighthoover to follow his destiny to the dark matter between the stars.
Dust in Peace

Nighthoover's absence is nothing to fret about. He is just behaving exactly like every other deity. His absence is just further proof of his godlike-edness. We can't have our prophets or messiahs or minor and major godheads flitting about the Earthly (and interwebby) plain willy-nilly. IT'S JUST NOT DONE! No, by obstinately refusing to return or UN-cancel, nighthoover is just providing us, his loyal followers, what we need most... an opportunity to have faith. We should be thankful that he hasn't gone and spoiled it all for us.
