I think I remember Hardwick House. Was it the one with the guy who ate sardines from a tin and the horrible teacher who kept saying "hairs grow all over our bodies" (I remember him saying this in conversation to a pupil who was, for some reason, wrapped in toilet roll)

Thanks Coely, I was nearly right. Pulled very quickly!
Thanks for the memory refresher. I remember being bitterly disapointed that I didn't get to see Rik and Ade in it, I was (and still am to a certain extent) a huge fan. Maybe one day.
Nightingales, I remember that too! I thought it was great as well, although I don't remember it too well.

Two episodes, that's not short lived.
There was a show in the US a couple of years ago that was pulled at the first advert break!
Nightingales was indeed Channel 4, and I presume part of the difficulty was that Lindsay (after years in the doldrums) and Threllfall were on the verge of stardom, Lindsay in (the now being repeated on BBC Choice or Uk Gold or somesuch) GBH and Threllfall in whichever Mike Leigh film it was.
Nightingales was done on a shoestring budget, so I'd guess they couldn't afford the cast any longer.

GBH? Breathtakingly marvellous...... Robert Lindsay, Michael Palin, that bunch of people who are in everything set north of Watford...

Whisky, indeed I do remember Triangle, Kate O'Mara starred before her move into Dynasty (or was it the Colby's).
I must say though that I seem to remember that lasted more than one series so I doubt it counts for this short lived show thread.
I also remember liking it, but then I was only about 7 or 8 at the time and I liked the Bay City Rollers then too

I was telling my friend about this thread this morning and, during the ensuing conversation, I remembered another one-series (I'm pretty sure) show. I can't remember the name but it was a British police comedy, somewhat in the Police Squad! mould (although not quite a straight-played). It was called *someone* and *someone*. I'm guessing it was on TV around 1990. Help!

A consultation of imdb has indeed revealed that Triangle ran from 1981-1983 so, sorry but it doesn't count.

The early '90s British police sitcom was Lazarus & Dingwall, it starred Mark Arden and Stephen Frost as I recall.

Oh I adored The High Life! We HAVE to find some way of seeing it again. Come on, now everybody, think.

Hands up all those who remember 'Crime Traveller' starring Chloe Annett and Mark French. It only ran for one series (well, it wasn't that great a programme), and I only saw one episode. However, the central idea did lead to debates (sometimes heated) with Richard over whether or not time travel to the future is possible. (It's only the debates that make me remember the show!) The show said not, and I could see their point of view. Richard said it might be, depending on how the time machine was made.

"The High Life" and "Nightingales": both stunning, both never repeated (EVER), and both not available on video or DVD. I think it's a crying shame!!
The memory of David Threlfall naming the escaped gorilla "Terry Oblong" and claiming that he'd stone-clad his house on the inside "so it looks like a cave", still makes me cry with laughter.
There's nobody here but us chickens!!!
Going back even further into the mists of time...does anyone remember a one series sitcom on ITV called (I believe) "I'm Sorry I'm A Stranger Here Myself". It was on circa 1978/79 - one of the leads was a punk - and it was utterly brilliant. A fore-runner to Jerry Seinfeld, as very little actually happened. It was also unusual for the time because the storylines continued each episode, instead of being neatly concluded as is the norm in sitcoms.

I remember Crime Traveller - it was really clever, like the way they couldn't win on the Lottery and stuff. And Chloe and Michael were both gorgeous to look at...

I'd contradict on Crime Trveller - I thought it had potential but it was pants. Chloe wassaname couldn't act and the idea was not really developed, But then, as a friend of mine once said: if they were that good at solving mysteries, they wouldn't need help from a time machine.
Mind you, I rather liked Glam Metal Detectives in a very silly sort of way....
I have seen the High Life twice (good both times) could it have been shown first on BBC Scotland, and then nationally?
