Drizzly and grey. The big freeze that's forecast hasn't materialised just yet. It doesn't feel as cold as yesterday and there's no snow around the city or where I live in central north west. Still, it's only early. I love that we only get one bad weather day in the year so virtually the whole of the breakfast news show was devoted to showing you snow.

As I walked down the ungritted road to the station this morning, I stopped to check the depth of the snow in a couple of places 2-4 inches (50-100mm) and more snow falling. The train was only slightly delayed (not much more than usual in fact). It was a very wet sleet in central Manchester as I walked across to the office but it did feel colder than the -3C from when I left the house (ah a nice warm house with a cosy fire, hope that's still going when I get home).

This morning's walk to the station was over icy pavements and clear roadways. The thaw/freeze cycle that happened yesterday along with snow compaction from people caused the pavements to be very icy. The roads have been cleared, either by vehicles using them or the gritters finally getting round. Once again in the city centre there was no snow or ice.

we had snow for nearly 48 hours nonstop,it eased off at 6pm last night, and there asnt been any all night, its starting the thaw already jim

Bright and sunny and dry. Bloddy cold though - minus 3c apparently. And I've just come in the office and we've got no heating so we're all sitting here in our coats and scarves and hats. May take my Blackberry and work from the coffee shop if it doesn't warm up in here soon!

Snowing. Snowing and cold enough for the snow to stick. I wasn't expecting snow in the city and certainly not sticking snow. Still I guess it'll turn to drizzle later and there maybe some at home this evening when I get back out to the hills.

It's been bright and sunny all morning but it's beginning to cloud over a bit now. It's been freezing all day though - about 2c but with the wind chill it feels like -3/4c.

Freezing cold and snowing a lot. It's snowed quite a bit overnight too. I've a feeling that today is the day London comes to a standstill!
