Whats the weather doing where you are?
Invizliz Posted Jan 9, 2005
It's summer here in South Africa and where i am it means huge thunderstorms every night. Just recovering from a bit of thunder that shook my house. When it's not raining ít's about 30 degrees C.

12.05am Monday 10th, North Pennines.
We're getting the gales now GB so they should reach you in a couple of hours. Batten down the hatches!
(The water seems to be pouring in faster than it was on Friday night but the wind can't be as bad as last night's because my Rayburn's thermometer isn't anywhere near going off the scale the way it did then)

Sitting here in Dublin, Ireland in the wee small hours, having just posted a new thread at the Forum re climate change ( hi Tefkat), and it's blowing a gale, yet again, but a weirdly warm westerly gale, weirdly warm for mid-winter January.
Snow-drops already blooming, and daffodils budding....in January!!!!
Just for the sake of scientific accuracy, Dublin lies at 6 degrees 15 minutes West, 53 degrees 20 minutes North.

London - 10 January - 10.45
Grey and cloudy and the predicted rain has just started to fall in dribs and drabs. Miserable really, although not too windy. About 14c.
I was in Catres in the South of France at the weekend and it was clear and sunny and about 16c - lovely!

About those snowdrops and daffodils - we have catkins on some of the willows.
It's fairly calm here (about as calm as it ever gets up here) but they're predicting more for tomorrow night.

The dark cloud that was overhead as I walked for the train seems to have been left behind (or is it blown away) and the low winter sunlight is highlighting the city centre buildings. Those red bricks and terracotta fronted buildings are positivly glowing right now.
Hope those affected by the last lot of bad weather are coping ok and that the storm forecast for later today and this evening doesn't do much more damage.

Dublin, Ireland.
Can we agree to put our locality and country at the beginning of each message. Where's Gladstone, Tyrone? You mention a cyclone off the coast. Which coast?
Meanwhile, we're battening down the hatches here for 90 - 100 mph gusts, and a huge Atlantic storm hitting the west and north coasts.
Bewildering weather. And not just bee wildering, but bird and plant wildering too. Here we have the worst storm, the fourth in a succession of bad storms since October, where three bad storms per year has been unusual until recently. But it's still really mild, and plants are beginning to flower a month early, trees are budding. But the insect hatching cycles are increasingly out of synch with the flowering/pollinating cycles, and the birds who feed off them at nesting time are going to be in serious trouble too.
Interesting times??? No wonder the Chinese use the phrase, "May you live in interesting times" as a curse.
BTW Commiserations and sympathy to any readers from Carlisle, still largely under water. I lived there in 1973-74, lovely city, really friendly people.

PS. Should have put a time on that message. 2.00pm. Wind's getting stronger. Full force of the storm expected 6 - 8pm tonight accompanied by very high tide and heavy rain.

Here in Dublin, it's a cold clear night with a beautiful sliver of a new moon. Last night the savage storm that ripped across the country blew a huge container lorry right off the Foyle River Bridge onto the mudflats below, killing the driver.
In today's Irish Times, it points out that severe storms are typical Irish weather at this time of year, and the present run of storms is nowhere near as bad as the "Big Wind" in the late 1800's which devastated the countryside.
