Torrential rain through the night. Various roads closed and town centre closed due to flooding.
Typical Scottish summer weather.

A lovely summer morning - warm sunshine, blue skies, little fluffy clouds, cool breeze. The humidity of the past few days has disappeared and the temperature is much more comfortable, currently around 20C but expected to rise a little later on.

Bonnie and Charliee are coming to do their nasty works as hurricans do on the East Coast of USA.
We don't know as of today: Aug.13, 04 how far will they go up North.
I live in Long Island, N.Y.
This year the hurrican season starts very early! We will have enormous amount of rain this week end on the top of a very rainy year.

Hurricane season starts earlier these days, due to increased ocean temperatures.
And they said that Global Warming would never amount to much...

PS Charlie just got named a force 4 hurricane; hurricane Andrew from a few years ago, was a 5. This is not good.

beautiful bright sunny day here in So Fla...
but looking at the tv and seeing the devastation caused by hurricane Charley, we're giving thanks that it missed us.
Expected to hit Tampa as a Cat 2 hurricane, it suddenly strengthened into a Cat 4 and made a right into Charlotte harbour and up the Peace River. The damage in Punta Gorda is intense, Concrete block houses demolished, roofs torn off, trees and power lines are down.
Signs saying 'looters will be shot and killed' are being painted on the remaining walls of peoples houses.
Fire Stations, hospitals and the Emergency Management Control centre were destroyed.
Collections of food items are being arranged in our local supermarkets to send to the affected areas.
Quite a storm really, hope it doesn't regain strength before it hits the Carolinas later today.

Thank goodness you got overlooked, alec!
Hope this is the worst you'll all get this Hurricane season (and being very thankful that there's no such thing as an Earthquake season!)

...oh, and we're currently keeping a close eye on TD5 (EARL)
which is still out in the atlantic, but following a similar track to Charley.
Definitely like sitting at the wrong end of a bowling alley!

'a' was 'alex'
'b' is/was 'bonnie'
'c' is for 'charley'
'd' is for tropical storm 'danielle', still churning out in the atlantic at 27W, 12N, not expected to make landfall.
TD5 is the not yet named 'earl' still with only 35mph winds, but expected to strengthen.
The best place i've found to track them is :
http://www.hurricanewarning.net/
and click on the 'tropical weather update'
They have a list of all the names, past tracks, links to cool satellite pics and the actual advisorys from NOAA.

Devastation is incredible. Est. 2 Billion Dollars. Printed photos from NY Times reporters from Florida. Death toll is not final yet.
Considered one of the most powerful hurricane in history USA. The name is: Charley hitting with 145 mi wind in South Florida.
I have spent many happy times there--- some time ago.
