Xanatic -
Lots!
The one that made the news was depression, a few people topped themselves. Obviously, that's pretty rare though.
I got vivid dreams (as in, it would take me 10 minutes some mornings to sort out my dreams from my memories of the previous evening), and probably high blood pressure.
Lariam comes (in the UK, anyway - all drugs have to by law) with a little leaflet listing the possible side-effects. I had people in stitches a couple of times by reading it through and ending "How bad can malaria BE?" I'll see if I can dig it out.
If you're going backpacking-type-travelling, the Gif Advice Service is here to help - take a look at A675254 and let me know what you think!

Well, malaria is probably the one thing that has killed most people in human history.

Please take the advice of your local medical travel expert. If s/he says take Larium (or whatever) please do. If not, you are not putting only yourself at risk. Malaria is spreading back into the North.
Otherwise, don't go to a malarial area until they've got the vaccine worked out. (Shouldn't be too long now that it's spreading back into the North) - a cynic who has seen too many children die of malaria over the years.

Hmm, yes your health is quite a serious issue, so just in case my flippant remark has caused any doubt:
Lariam is better than malaria.
Like I said, I took the stuff for nine months or something, which shows a) I thought I needed to, and b) none of the major side-effects hit me or my travelling-partner, just a few sleepless nights.

PS latest health scare: oxygen dihydride has been found in over 30% of UK water supplies! And people who come into contact with it have a FAR HIGHER chance of contracting cancer or dying of heart diease than people who have no contact with it!!! It's true, I read it on the web.

I think Monoxide is much worse.

Giford Posted Jul 17, 2002
Yeah, but can you deny anything I said? If you don't drink any water, you won't die of cancer ... and 100% is definitely greater than 30%.
Originally this joke noted the sterling work that Yorkshire Water was doing to remove all traces of oxygen dihidride from its reservoirs, which dates the joke a bit.
