Skipping Church Illegal?

I wanna be buried in an ecopod, at a woodland site, starting to plan it all now! As you never know!
Wouldn't it be a bummer if one of the religions was right, and when we died we couldn't understand anything cause we hadn't learnt the language of the 'right' religion?

Rama, people always say that tunnel vision is a result of anoxia - as if that proves the near death experience to be false. It doesn't! For one thing, people have had 'near death experiences' who has good oxygen saturation, had had no sedatives, none of the supposed natural causes and explanations applied to them (Victims of motor vehicle accidents, explosions etc.) Kenneth Ring and Moody in their books, deal with these things.

We could discuss why Denmark has denied giving Asatro, the worship of the old norse gods, a status as official religion. It seems laughable.

I think sounds absolutely brilliant, Xanatic. When you consider the thousands of people who practise Asatru in Denmark, Britain and the US, its great that they are getting official recognition.
I know someone in Denmark who saya that many people have always followed Asatru, and I know of many people, magazines and hearths in Britain and the US.
I can only hope that it means that one day the British government might officially recognise pagan beliefs.
Afterall you have Prince Charles the defender of the faiths who visits mosques, temples and synagogues, who ignores the pre-Christian faith of his own country. Considering his views on life he would probably have a lot in common with the average pagan.
Good on Denmark!

either my eyes or my brain is packing up, sorry Xanatic
laughable yes, it started in Denmark and thousands of people follow it all over the world, the government is a giant prat.
maybe I read it wrong, cause it took me 20 minutes of trying just to get the post screen up, it was soooooooooo frustrating!

To be honest though, I don't think I have ever met anyone personally who did the asatro thing.
But I am going to protest about this. I hope they have a good excuse. If we can get all the roleplayers in Denmark to lobby for it as well, maybe it will happen.

...maybe they're (paranoidly) afraid of its (wrongful, vague) associations with church-burning in nearby countries. Which they shouldn't be, but the conservatives might go up in arms.

I dont see y the governments are scared of Norse beliefs......they should allow us to build statues to beliefs rather than polititions.

Does anyone know whether the Census results are out yet? I would be interested to know how many people ticked which box for the religion question. Is Christianity still the No.1 religion in the UK?

well I do know that the number of people how put there religion as Jedi was high enough to consider Jedi a true religion for Britons.
Skipping Church Illegal?
Bogie Posted May 17, 2002
I have heard rumour that there were a large number of poeple who put Jedi down as their religion... but I don't think this will make it an official British religion recognised by parliament and the law. It took forever-and-a-day to get Paganism and Wicca recognised!

I know but there is a standard law that those religions failed to meet....there has to be ten thousand people in Britain who declare themselves as of the same religion before it is treated as one. In the census the religion Jedi went well over that number.

That was what the email campaign said in the runb up to the UK census! The reality may be different (Does anyone out there in the legal profession know the answer to this one?).

I believe that was how the actual census went.....but no need to believe me I'm only a lowly sixth former.

I'm not saying I don't believe you Tally... Its just that the results for the whole country weren't due out till this summer (though I can't remember what day or month). I do know that regional breakdown information was supposed to be released this winter.
