Rainy weekends

Post 1

Does anyone out there know why it always seems to rain weekend? When I lived in England, it always seemed to start on a Friday evening, round about 5pm, just as I was leaving work. Or Saturday morning. Now I live in the West Indies, it seems to be doing it again. Didn't notice until I started work again. Granted it is the rainy season, but this is too much. I read a few years ago that it is to do with the road traffic and the weekday rush to and from work. Something to do with fumes and heat generation, hot air rising clearing rain clouds or somesuch, and that at a weekend when the traffic congestion declines, the rain clouds form, etc. Sounds crazy, I suppose, but then...

I would seriously like to know if there is any truth in this, that it does rain more at weekends. Anyone got any facts and figures on this?

Dear Sir, don't know where you live but where I live when it rains IT RAINS. Thunder is THUNDER and the odd storm is usually a HURRICANE. Not funny when you have no car and are knee deep in it.

Barbados. Nice place but when it rains... Poor tourists. It's the rainy season but, I tell ya, it's always worst at weekend. I'm going green mouldy with it all. But, you all are not answering my query, does it really rain more at weekend or what? I moved over here a few years ago but I remember that it always seemed to rain at the weekend in the UK. Could never get the washing dry etc etc etc. Anybody out there have any serious theories?

PS I'd put in a smiley but it beats me where to get them. Do you have to print them off as a list and then key them in. Or is there some magic button hidden somewhere? Just thought I'd ask.

Mostly Harmless

There is a theory saying that it does rain more on the weekends due to pollution building up the atmosphere form the cars and industry working during the week. So YES it does rain more on the weekend. So find yourself a lovely person of your choice to spend your weekend with in pursuit of indoor activities and play on the beach after work during the week.

Thank you, Mostly H, and I am glad you had read the same sort of thing about the weather too. Suggestions for the weekend sound okay but it's dark here around 6pm and so beach after work is out. Can't have it all...I know.

One answer might be to change your job to one where you have days off in the middle of the week, and work on the weekend. It also means that everywhere is open on your days off, but the shops and leisure facilities and beaches or whatever are not all crowded with weekenders! smiley - smiley

the autist formerly known as flinch

I remember reading a Readers Digest "fact" saying that in London it rains more Thursdays than any other day.

I've carried that gem round with me for about twenty years. I wonder if it's even vaguely true.
