Well...
... apart from the fact he's dead, George Formby playing Galadriel wouldn't have had the same "ring" to it somehow.
"Ey-up, Frodo, you've got to take ring down't Pit O't'Doom in Mordor and utterly destroy it, tha knows. Happen it's a reet booger, but only thee canst do it. Hey-up, listen, I'll play thee out down t'river with a bit of tune on me ukelele, how's that?"
No, can't see it working.
It has to be Liv, rather than a stereotypical Northerner of the 1940's.

George is quite harmeless, I suppose, but there's a kind of person or a kind of mindset that happens to some people, where they consciously try to become a caricature of a region or a stereotype of its inhabitants.
I think of this as the "Professional.............." Syndrome.
Rolf Harris, for instance, is a Professional Australian; Kenneth McKellar is a Professional Scotsman; Terry Wogan a Professional Irishman - ie, where their career is predicated on quirks of nationality or regional identity, as much as on the personality of the celebrity involved.
George Formby was a Professional Northern Male; Gracie Fields, who could admittedly sing a bit (and granny of the much loved Lisa Stansfield?)was a Professional Northern Female. Now SHE'D have been fun as Galadriel...
"Frodo, luv! Come in and take weight off thi feet, our lad! Eeee, you've got a job on wi't'ring, chuck! Have a cuppa and a slice of hot toasted lembas, and I'll fire up t'Mirror and we'll sithee, shall we?"
(cue song)
"Sing as we GOOOOOOO,
Along the road to Mordor!"
(A chorus of happy smiling Elves caper from behind trees, and burst into choreography)

"Lord of the Rings - The Musical!"
That's the next logical step, isn't it? the Tolkein machine has milked everything else for money - books, audio cassettes, radio serial, action toys, DVD's, the films....
Just don't let Andrew Lloyd-Webber anywhere near it, though!

I don't get any of this fuss about the Tolkien books/moovies/whatever, I read them, the books that is, when I was a kid, they were alright as books go, I don't think I'd want to read them again though A musical?; probably even worse than him; Ben Elton could probably make a pretty awful comedy out of it

Ye Gods....
.... life imitating art....
....I meant it as a JOKE, mr Wallace! a JOKE! A satirical statement on the ability of the Tolkein machine to wring every last drop of cash out of the franchise, and then some. Despite the unfeasability, unsuitability or downright inappropriateness of some possible treatments! You didn't have to take me literally and go out and start producing the bloody thing, man!
What's next? Tolkein - the genetic manipulation? Splicing together human, rat, and plague baccilus DNA to breed your own Orcs? (Make YOUR live-action role playing game ultra-realistic with Tolkein Genetic Labs, Inc...)
And I maintain I thought of the idea first and I want a share of the royalties, OK?
