Where can I find some nice friendly girls?
tjeika Posted Apr 23, 2005
Well, up till now, I have always said I'd find my own boyfriend. I'm getting worried, though, because the offer starts to become attractive...
I haven't been successfull for quite a while now.

Xanatic,
why did they give up? Never found a match? So it's not worth trying?

I'm a special case. You should keep trying though. What sort of places are you looking in?

Another question for people on here. If I tell girls I'm a student, what would be a good thing to tell them I study? What would not scare them away, and make me seem interesting?

anything you can be enthusiastic about. They must see that you are a person with an aim in life and joy in getting there. But don't bore them with too many details. And don't invent something. What if she's got a PhD in the subject - that would be a big mistake!

Tell the truth, or you'll look really sad when she finds out you were lying.

What was it you were doing? Astrophysics or I am getting muddled? Or are you a zoologist as per user name?

Xan, if you study astrophysics, you should *flaunt* it, not hide it.

I agree, you should tell the truth. Anything you do can be interesting - as long as you don't describe it with too much technical detail.
Also, it depends on the girl what will scare her off. If you invent something and this is the wrong thing for her, you haven't gained anything.
Now to me - maybe I don't "try" enough. I go to parties and bars and so forth, but usually with my friends with whom I then spend the evening. I doesn't help a lot that I quite like one guy (one of my friends) who unfortunately already has a girlfriend...

I do study astrophysics. Zoology is what I'm considering trying to change to. But when you mention you do physics, girls tend to instantly treat you like a geek.
I was at the bookstore yesterday looking for some books on zoology. While I was standing there, this girl came up and started looking at the books as well. To be honest, a girl looking at science books seem to be a rather rare occurence. I wanted to say something to her, but while I was trying to come up with something she left again. Typical.
I then went to another bookstore a bit later, and guess who I saw standing over at the science books. I got talking to her, and turns out she's a third year genetics student at my uni. I got her phone number, and we might go watch the Hitchhikers movie together

You see, hope springs eternal!
And can you not say 'rocket science' rather than astrophysics?
I'm not sure it really is the same thing, but I once got my Italian ex to translate the phrase 'It's not rocket science' into her own language for me, and she came up with 'Non e astrophysica'.

Oh, and an update on the Six front... I didn't ask for the phone number of my girl that I met the other week, but one of the many things we were talking about that night was favourite books. And seeing as she seemed really interested in mine, I've sent my second-best copy of it on loan to her via my mate that works at the same place. Written her a little note at the same time.
So again we'll see

Hmmm, I doubt the phrase rocket science would make me seem less geeky. Maybe I should just reply that I study heavenly bodies
Nice one six. Maybe you should try and mention Hitchhikers, and suggest going to see the movie

"Heavenly bodies," tries to think of a telescopic joke
Wouldn't it just be easier Xan to find a geeky girl, than worrying about a girl not liking you because you're geeky?

Geeky, maybe, but that doesn't have to be such a bad thing. If a guy told me he studied astrophysics, I'd be impressed. I'd think, 'wow, this guy must be really smart' - that being a good thing in my book.

Yes, but it seems to be a drawback for most girls.
A geeky girl would be good as well. The one girl I remember not saying "Oh my God" and taking a step back, had a degree in physics herself.
