In the middle of around a dozen, but just finished Thief of Time, by Terry Pratchett.
Also reading Lord of the Rings (again!), Needful Things (Stephen King) and The Physics of Star Trek (can't remember author's name, but good for a laugh)

It's not bad. I'm a scientist, so I could cope with a lot of it. It isn't particularly technical, and I enjoyed it as a good book rather than a textbook waltz through contemporary physical theories.

'The Pillars of Hercules' by Paul Theroux. Travel writing from around the Mediterranian (I can never spell that right). Quite good so far.

Finished Possession and have elected not to see the film because I love the book so much.
So now I am reading 'THEM: Adventures with Extremists' by Jon Ronson. Scary and hilarious by equal terms.

"Endurance" by Alfred Lansing. All about Shackleton's ill-fated trip to the south pole.

Just finsihed "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson, and I'm about 10 pages or so through "Neuromancer" by William Gibson.
All recommended by my dear friend Bob The Farmer. Quite a few others are scattered about my room, but I can't remember them!

Something Happened by Joseph Heller.
On a par with Catch 22, that

See...now that's what I was told about "Lord of the Flies". But it wasn't.

As usual I have more than one on the go at the moment. Currently I'm reading:
The Blind Watchmaker - Richard Dawkins
Lord Of The Rings - (do I really need to name the author?)
English Passengers - Matthew Kneale
The Last Continent - Terry Pratchett
Saturnine!! How on Earth can you not get into Catch 22?!!! One of the best and funniest books of all time?!!!

Lord of the Flies is one of the spookiest, most unnerving books I've ever read, bar Kurt Vonnegut's novels (all of them). I'd strongly advise borderline pessismists like me to steer clear of Vonnegut's works. He is a brilliant writer, but will make you depressed for days.
One of the best novels ever has to be Even Cowgirls get the Blues. But you know, so many books out there, so little time in one's life to read them all... we cannot say for sure if there is a BESTEST novel, although we all have our favourites. I mean, none of you has read mine!

The Dogs of Riga - Henning Mankell (run-of-the-mill crime thriller, but set in Ystad and Riga, so a bit different!)
Haji Baba of Isfahan - James Morier (classic tale of Iranian adventurer)
Six Easy Pieces - Richard Feynman (an idiot's guide to theoretical physics)

The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin. Probably one of the most influential books of the last few centuries excluding Moa Tse-Tung's Little Red book, Das Capital, Mein Kampf and Delia Smith's Winter Collection.
It's about time I read Origin of Species as I've read so many other books on evolution and genetics including the aforementioned Blind Watchmaker (which I've found to be the most enjoyable of Dawkins's work so far - you just have to get over the inital chapters criticising other people first).

Oh I don't know, his criticism of the guy who cannot fathom why Polar Bears are white is quite amusing!!!
