That should be as *is* of course, and the book, is 'Absolute Zero'... Excellent!
I am currently reading David Gemmell's 'Lord of the Silver Bow', as awesome and wonderful as I'd expected. I'd had it in a cupboard for 18 months, before realising that I'd better read it...
Well worth the wait!
Vicky

Anybody read The Crimson Petal and the White? Did you feel cheated by the (non) ending?
PS: Hello, I am new round here and this is my first effort at a posting under my own identity, although I did once make a posting in somebody else's - whose computer I am on right now, while he squirms and makes incoherent noises amidst duct tape in the corner - so be gentle ...

I just finished The Amber Spyglass, by that Philip Pullman bloke. Yes, it bears reading again. I hope they do make the films of the second & third books, and make a better job of them than the rather pedestrian "Ooh Look! Polar Bears!"*
All my Christmas books were of a humorous variety (Do Ants Have Arseholes? etc.) so I need a good, serious book to read again. Any suggestions?

Hello Firefly (or should we call you Remarkable?), hope you're liking h2g2.
I'm reading Thud! by Terry Pratchett. Another quite good one. I think if I ignore his early books, which are what put me off him, I might come to like him.

WG:
'The Master And Margarita' was my big discovery of last year. A wonderful book!
Cheerful Dragon (and Sho):
I fed my O'Brian addiction over the holidays with 'Clarissa Oakes'. The complexity and subtlety increase as the series goes on. There's some insightful psychological detail about the sexual history of the eponymous character. There's a nice bit where Aubrey finds an ear in his dinner, too.
Currently Reading:
'The Shadow of the Wind' by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. It was recommended to me by a waitress. I recommended 'The Master and Margarita' to her.

I saw the Vonnegut thing but haven't read it yet.
As for O'Brian - it's all very technical though. But I am thoroughly enjoying it. But I think I prefer Hornblower. If I knew the difference between a jib and a mainbrace I think I'd get on with it a bit better.
