I never got 'Catcher In The Rye'. I've read it twice, but both times I was left thinking "well it's good, but not THAT good."
Compared to 'The Great Gatsby' or 'Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas' it lacks a grat deal.

I just looked up the Katherine Kerr series on Amazon - it looks brilliant.
I'm being highly intellectual and reading Milton's Paradise Lost

I liked Paradise Lost when we did it at school.
Currently I am reading Digital Fortress. The only reason I haven't burned it is the fact that I worship at the altar of Book, and I never ever don't finish a book that I start. However painful.
And believe me, this one is making me want to gouge out my own eyes.
How on earth does such bad writing and, frankly speaking, drivel get published????
On a happier note, I'm about to introduce The Gruesome Twosome to the wonder that is Edith Nesbit in the shape of Five Children and It.

Me too! I've even booked a day holiday from work the Monday after book 6 comes out in case I don't finish it over that weekend!

I used to feel that way as well, but then I realised that life is too short, and some books just don't warrant that kind of consideration.

I'm so appalled at this one, I'm reading it on a sort of "road accident" principle. I really just can't put it down.
I'm going to start HP soon, I think I might cheat a little and read the first one to The Gruesome Twosome. (#2 is so excited, her birthday is the same day as Harry Potter's)

I've read "Paradise Lost" a few times, it's been a few years, though. Might re-read that again soon, too.
At the moment, I'm reading Ira levin's "This Perfect Day" again. When I've finished it (probably by afternoon), I'm going to re-read "Finnegans Wake", which I haven't read since high school.

Managed to finish 'The Catcher in the Rye' on Sunday. The fact that it took me 10 days to read is a good indication that I wasn't really into it.
I have now started '1984' - I'm only two chapters in but so far I'm fascinated.

Catcher in the Rye is a tricky book, but well worth the read.

still staggering, in a stunned speechless way, through the train wreck that is Digital Fortress.
Reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone to the Gruesomes. It's odd, but it seems a little different now that I am reading it aloud at a walking pace. I'll have to read the other 4 like this too. (but not before 6 comes out - I'll never manage it)

Well sho, I'm really very motivated to read 'Digital Fortress' which I bought after I had started reading the 'da Vinci code'

oh gosh, sorry, B'lana. You might like it. I'm incredibly picky, and when it comes to things like the NSA (although I do adore James Bond - he was the reason I went into intelligence work)
I'm also highly critical at the moment of main protagonists who are so flippin' perfect, brilliant, young, good lookin, chic... they are like main characters out of a Danielle Steele novel.
I'm just bitter because I'm so much more talented at writing, but unpublished
I'll be interested to hear what you think of it.

That's ok Sho, I forgot to put the smiley
. Right now, I'm still reading 'Last chance to see', a fantastic book , and I've bought a German book
- but it was cheap
which I will probably read next :Every day gets a little closer (Irvin D. Yalom/Ginny Elkin.

I loved Last Chance To See. I should get that out again.
I really have to finish Baudolino too -but it is also excruciatingly s l o w a n d b o r i n g at the end.

Sho, I'm glad I'm not the only one who had problems with Digital Fortress! Are you getting that strange sense of deja vu, like you've read it somewhere before?
(The Return of) What book are you reading at this time?
Sho - employed again! Posted Jun 15, 2005
No, I'm just getting a strange sense of I want to do some very painful things to Dan Brown and his editor.
It is very samey, but then that isn't something that bothers me overmuch as long as the writing is good. Or why couldn't Susan have some flaws?
I'm not yet at the end, but I've got to the part where she meets the head honcho of NSA. Now, she's super brilliant and the chief cryp, but she's never met him before??????? no no no no no
And this could have been totally brilliant. These sorts of stories can go anywhere and do anything.
I think I need a quiet lie down. The only thing is that when I go to bed, I will want to read. And DF is up there, lurking, waiting for me.

Good to know about Digital Fortress Sho! I have to say that I kind of liked the 'da Vinci code'. And then I read "Angel and Demons" and... I am sorry, but I found it too far fetched And got very disappointed! Well, I guess it's hard for a writer to keep up the standards after writing so many books in such a short time
But good luck with Baudolino! I know, it's boring and it's slow and it takes for ever to read.. But I have to say that once I read it and I could grasp the whole idea I thought it was brilliant!

Last night I finished reading "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult. Not the sort of book I would normally read but I had decided to expand my reading tastes and I did pick this one cos it seemed the best of the Richard and Judy lot!!!
I have to say I was very impressed with the book. Very well written, very innovative subject matter and very emotional. I would read more of her books if they are as interesting as this one.
Today, I'm heading back to Silas Marner!
