I loved Vanity Fair myself.
I am currently reading the Song of Ice and Fire books on a permanent rotation and Patrick Hamilton's Twenty Thousand Streets under the Sky.

Funny I always assumed the 'W' stood for w****r. But that is a reflection on the man rather then his works.

I have just finished "Harriet Said" by Beryl Bainbridge. It went in the direction I had expected and then turned off somewhere else very suddenly at the end!

"The curious incident of the dog in the night-time" by Mark Haddon - and before I go down the pub, a quick dip into: "A short history of nearly everything" by Bill Bryson.

oooh "The curious incident of the dog in the night-time" is an awesome book, I hope your enjoying it. I am currently reading the Gormenghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake, which comes highly recomended.

Mervyn Peakes Trilogy. The melancholic Muzzlehatch deserves wider recognition, as does Peakes artworks that adorn some of the Penguin editions. As for the curious dog book, well my son is A.S.(thats Aspergers Syndrome for you non-Aspies out there) and he could give you an entirely different review of a book written about an A.S. person for obviously general consumption. My son and other Aspies seem to get a chuckle out of the whole thing! Cheers

I loved The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time - enjoy!
My current reading is that I've just finished His Dark Materials and have just started to re-read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix so that I'm reminded of where the story is before the next book arrives in July.

Just started rereading 'Sunset Song' by Lewis Grassic Gibbon. Do so every year or so but I think I may reread the whole trilogy this time which I haven't done for about 10 years.

"The eyes of the overworld" by Jack Vance. Love this book. (It's the same moth-eaten paperback version I bought in the sixties) Sardonic, witty and imaginative, it's never lost it's appeal for me. I'm thinking of re-reading the Gormenhast trilogy again, but have to get myself in right frame of mind, will have to do it soon, before summer finishes as I find that reading it in the winter is not the same. Why is that? Hated what the BBC did to it. It's either that or that Jonathan Srange book by Susan?/Suzannah? Clark

Reading Trace by Patricia Cornwell. Usual sloppy writing that makes me wonder what on Earth I'm reading it for, but I read it anyway! Go figure.
Also reading Architects of Eternity by Richard Corfield, which is a sort of history of the fossil and palaeontology. Just finished Bones of Contention by Paul Chambers, a lovely book on the controversies surrounding the Archaeopteryx.

Jack Vance is awesome! Have you read the Demon Prince books? I read all five in a weekend, back in 1980.
