I noticed that the Irish choices were very similar to my own ratings so perhaps airplay does play a part. Maybe to give the UK a chance we need to let the US have a vote. smiley - winkeye I hear the US is going to have a song competition among the states, so you never know what the future holds.

Nice work on the review MB. smiley - ok Wasn't it the Dutch rep that was called an 'eejit' by Wonag or was my mind clouded by Baileys?

For me, the new voting system has killed half of the fun. I am serious when I say that. I think next year they could have the 8-10-12 only system for the non-finalists and go back to the old way for the finalists.

He called at least three people an eejit.

The Dutch guy was trying to give out his phone number or something. He was eventually called 'pathetic'.

The four biggest financial contributors to the show - France, UK, Germany and Spain - all get byes to the final stages of the next year's competition in the event that they don't finish in the top-10 in the current competition.

Well none of them did finish in the top-10. All four did badly, three of them spectacularly so.

What's the chances of one or more of these four taking their ball away and joining the Italians by leaving the competition? And would the remaining big nations be willing to pick up the tab left by this departing nation, or would they leave as well?

Ah, the Italians actually left did they? I wondered where they were.

I don't recall seeing the Belgians, or the Czech's either.

UK, France, Ireland and Germany need to set aside their differences and form a voting Bloc or they're never going to win again.
Vast points are picked up in the Eastern reaches of europe by being part of a formerly larger country regardless of the quality of your song.

Scandinavia all vote for each other. Former Soviet republics all vote for each other - and Finland is handily situated for both voting blocs. smiley - yawn

And incidentally, being situated somewhat east of Jordan and due North of Iran, how the hell does Armenia remotely qualify as being in Europe? I thought Israel's participation was doubtfull but really.
Perhaps next year we will see the first Japanese entry in the Eurovision...

The Belgians were knocked out in the semi-final. And their song was highly regarded and considered to be one of the favourites.

No, it got so high by being downright weird. Eurovision likes that.

You're worried about having the Armenians in the competition, Orcus? Well the Israelies have been in it for 20 years or so now, and they are hardly a European nation smiley - winkeye

Not entirely worried, no. But it is getting silly. And yes, Israel's participation is pretty doubtful really.

Okay, Orcus - so your point is that ESC should be for the western Europe only, UK gives high scores to Ireland only because Ireland has always terribly good songs, and unfair trash like me for example should be send home? Sorry for being hypersensitive here but I feel discriminated.
