Why 360 degrees?

Hi Redfax,
That's some combination from an ice-cream loving fanatic!!!!
Ancient history and mathematics - I pointed out the 60 x 60 error some time ago and got an apology of sorts. I'm not so hot on ancient history though !!
Have some

No men in white suits there!

*in at straight jacket*
Those men in white coats are actualy quite friendly, they feed me now three times a day and they even tell me stories at bed time.
*glances around*
*whispers* I hate it, they make me say this stuff, please save me, take me to that garden of eden. please, please, save me.
*glances around again*
I want my mommy!!!!!!!!!!!

The following numbers divide into 360 - 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10,12,15,18,20,30,36,40,45,60,72,90,120,180,360 - 24 factors - not bad.
100, on the other hand, only has 9 factors. Maybe the Babylonians were on to something...

Lord Preston Posted Jul 5, 2001
yeah but how many factors does a 1000 have, or 1000,000 for that matter. surely the higher the number the more factors it will have.
i'm not much good at maths so this could be compleatly wrong.
Maybe the only reason they used 360 was to make it harder to calculate and so annoy me!!

A higher number doesn't mean more factor:
20 has five factors while 23 is a prime number and factors only by one and by itself, however it is true that for every n number that is a number >n with more factors.
I still stick with the astronomical theory, after all babilonians were renown for their astronomical interests.
Instead here's another problem:
0° celsius is the temperature at which water freezes
100° celsius is the temperature at which water boils
1° celsius is defined as the 1/100th part of the interval between the freezing and the boilng temperatures of water.
Where do farenheit degrees come from?
Why 360 degrees?
Lord Preston Posted Jul 5, 2001
OK, let me think,
The fahrenheit temperature scale based on 32° for the freezing point of water and 212° for the boiling point of water, the interval between the two being divided into 180 parts. The 18th-century German physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit originally took as the zero of his scale the temperature of an equal ice-salt mixture and selected the values of 30° and 90° for the freezing point of water and normal body temperature, respectively; these later were revised to 32° and 96°, but the final scale required an adjustment to 98.6° for the latter value.
I don't think that makes sence or even answers the question properlly but u can't have everything in life!

jazzme Posted Jul 5, 2001
No walls - that'll make Redfax very happy - he's Italian and loves real ice cream.
Or have I confused the issue?
Sorry omylouse - you have to be "The only girl in the world, and I" (ie Lord P) "Was the only boy"
If you get him mad again and promise to love him you might just get to that Eden place!
Otherwise there is the Eden valley just East of Carlisle! Very pretty!

"Who cares about 360?"
Why, we obsessive-compulsives, that's who!
(All the o/c's raise your hands )
We could take that game called
"6 degrees of Kevin Bacon"
and turn into "360 degrees of Kevin Bacon"
Or substitute some other actor of your choice.
(Wait a minute, I just remembered I'm in a
procrastination cycle, and will have to put
off doing anything strenuous. Sorry....)

sorry Lord P, cant promise 2 love ya coz i dont think my toaster would b impressed! & speaking of toasters, no1 is going 2 steal my toaster! he is very special 2 me
i can see 5+3 fingers, should i b worried?
Why 360 degrees?
Lord Preston Posted Jul 6, 2001
close enough for me my dear omylouse. Don't worry no one will steal your toaster. I have heard a romour though that an evil grill using man is hit toasters with large inflatble mallets so i wouldn't leave your poor toaster alone for any period of time.
Oh one last question as well, are there any snakes in eden coz i don't like snakes, they can detatch their jaw.

thank you 4 the warning, i will inform my toaster at the earliest possible moment! i think we should start a campaign 2 get the evil grill using man locked away where he cannot harm all our toasters!
i believe there was a particually nasty serpent in eden @ 1 time, but i think that has all been sorted out now

Mostly by getting rid of Eden... The serpent found
other accommodations . Some say that behaving
yourself on is the only to be sure of not
meeting him again.
But I haven't turned into a theologian yet. Just
practicing to be an .
