Why 360 degrees?
Lord Preston Posted Jun 29, 2001
Bit late for the luck but i didn't need it anyway!!!! I feel like a song. Any1 want to join in?
"Two little Boys had two little toys,
Each had a wooden horse,
Gaily they played each summer's day,
Warriors both of course,
One little chap then had a mishap,
Broke off his horse's head,
Wept for his toy then cried with joy,
As his young playmate said ... "
I know the whole song but i'm not sure if u want me to carry on singing my joy here or u might prefer me to do it in a darkend sound proof room. (most people do)

Toaster? not heard that one!
We used to call our wife 'the boiler' but never the toaster.
Thanks for all good wishes from all of you
Hope you didn't sing 'Two little boys to your date' - 'The Twelvth of Never', is a much better dating song - very romantic!

i've heared about you omylouse's. Very shy creatures, spend much of their time in their burrows with their toasters and on venture up for the occational party.
A few omylouse's have been known to be house trained and a very few have actualy become quite clever learning to use such implementls as computers, photo-copiers and even digital watches.
There is one word of warning though, these creatures are infact very deadly. once you have crossed paths with an omylouse you will invaribly be struck down by the beauty and many people have been driven to madeness when they find out that the omylouse in question already has a toaster.

P.S. I think "two little boys" is a very romantic song but i would never sing it to me gal because i can't hold a tune to save me life.

Hi,
Thanks for the grid co-ordinates of both omylouses (omylice?)
Nice to know you both - love you both of course!
Glad you don't do the Rolf whatshisname when singing to your girlfriend Lord P - Two little boys might give the wrong impression!

Someone at the Mad Scientists Network attempted an answer
to this question--it's in the message board, courtesy of someone
named Allan Harvey.
Basically, the Babylonians liked things with the number 60
in them, because that number is evenly divisible by
a lot of numbers. To get the number of degrees in a circle,
they inscribed a hexagon inside the circle. 6 sides of the hexagon
times the Babylonian base of 60 equals 360. They then
borrowed 360 for the number of days in their year.

Lord P will be singing "By the rivers of Babylon", next.

P.D.P. Bach wrote a piece called
"By the leeks of Babylon,"
if that's any help.
(To the tune of "Old MacDonald had a farm,"
with appropriate refrains of EIEIO)

Not Johan Sebastian B ?
If it leaked where did the water run to?

J.S. Bach was the alleged father
of PDQ, but denied parentage
What leaked were the eyes of the
people peeling the leeks
("with a here,
and a there, etc.").
At the end, the piece modulates
into an unrelated key (with no
warning!), but nobody minds because
the piece is over, at least.
(Next comes "Bide thy thyme,"
I think)

I always thought PDQ was pretty darned quick?
And leaking eyes were due to onions?
And is Old McDonald still in business after the foot and mouth?

Thank Paul H. On thread references are way beyond the call of duty on this thread now . But. I've been semi-enlightened by a discussion on Desert Island Discs about the carbon atom having sixty sides or something equally stupid that these oddball scientists dream up. Or was it Sue Lawley? What ever. Thanks.
I need chocolate. Gimme chocolate.

Ancient science was strictly tied to astronomy, probably the stars rise 1/365th of a circle to the west or east every day and since early scientist loved perfect numbers (for example Pithagoras added an "anti earth", inobservable due to it's position on the far side of the sun, to reach the perfect number ten) they might of rounded it to the closest even and then worked out a time subdivsion around it. By the way I forget who wrote "60x60=360" but it's wrong 60x60=3600, 360=60x6
