h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Life is filled with twists and turns. Things happen that we don't expect. I've come to the conclusion that the best way to attract an event or circumstance or whatever is to go on record that you don't want it, will never want it, and it is never going to happen. It's like you're thumbing your nose at fate when you do that, daring whatever universal forces there might be to say, “Oh yeah?”

Case in point. After F died, I was absolutely adamant that there would NEVER be another man in my life. No thanks, not interested, already played that game, too old, libido expired, doing just fine on my own, when it snows purple. Right. Would those of you in the Southern Hemisphere please check the color of the snow for me? Thanks.

He's a great guy. We enjoy the same books, music, movies. He's a lifelong Cardinals fan, which is important for anyone who hangs around me and my family. He is interested in history, likes to travel, shares most of my views concerning politics and religion, takes me dancing, and most important, he has a very dry wit and a fabulous sense of humor. We laugh a lot.

I've been seeing him for several months. I can't be sure where the relationship is going, but we're doing well enough that it seems likely that we'll be together for quite a while. We're planning vacations together, go to each other's family affairs, he does library events with me, etc. Many of you will be able to meet him. We're doing a road trip this fall and plan to meet up with a few folks from h2g2 along the way. Then next spring he will be coming to Blighty with me for my 60th birthday party. More about that closer to the time, but you're all invited, naturally. (It doesn't seem possible that I'm nearly 60. Good grief.) Next weekend we're going to Kansas to visit Lady C. Then in early August we're going to spend a few days in St. Louis. We're doing Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona in late September, early October.

It occurred to me the other day that I'm happy again.

tartaronne, Lil nicknamed him Synesius. And I'm starting to save money for the trip to England, too. England is an expensive place for Americans these days. The official Presidential Birthday Bash is still on the drawing board. But whatever we decide to do, it will be FUN!!!!!

And yes, I knew that some of you were hoping this would happen. I'm probably more surprised by it all than you are. I'm glad it did, though. Syn is good for me.

You say you are happy again. What a wonderful tribute to another wonderful man in your life.

Good luck to you both. Enjoy all your wonderful travelling around the States and then when you come to us next year, then you can introiudce him to us all. Just remember that it is actually in places where I live ( I will not mention it!!) that one can afford to live and stay relatively inexpensively. !!.

Look it up on the Internet. It will make a big difference to the cost of your holiday. There are fast trains to and from London which take about 90 minutes. Besides which one is only 20 miles away from the the continent of Europe. !! And if one hires a car, one gets onto a car ferry and it costs virtually nothing to cross the Channel.

Gosh folks, you're making me feel all warm and fuzzy. I've said it before and will repeat it every time the opportunity arises...my h2g2 friends are without doubt the greatest group of folks anywhere. I really do love you guys. I've been lucky enough to spend time in person with many of you. I treasure every moment of that. I look forward to seeing all of you again and to meeting more of you. My mission in life is to hug every single one of you.

Egon, I'm going in the opposite direction to New York this fall. I'm finally going to see the Grand Canyon and some other things out west I've always wanted to see. Like Pueblo Bonito and Santa Fe. "Twil be . It's rather a rambling route, but I'll definitely be close to Lentilla and Gosho.

Christiane, you make some excellent suggestions. Especially since the dollar is in the toilet and shows no sign of recovering in my lifetime.
